Part of that was also the organizational desire to let UPL play his way onto the team, which obviously didn't happen. I'm not saying counting on UPL was a *good* plan, because it wasn't, but I do believe that was their plan
- Hank Balling

A poopty plan ends up with poopty results.

It seems obvious that the goal for this year is not winning, it's development of the young players and that includes putting them in uncomfortable situations like Tage and his line at the end of last night's game.

Trial by fire.

Gerbe is convinced the same goal will apply for next season as well, but I sure as hell hope they'll actually try to be a good team next season.

I still love the comparing a once in a lifetime goalie being able to turn this roster into cup finalists

it's a fragile stance on a balance beam under a mountain and at any moment the avalanche can come tumbling down

The effort is there, just not the depth of talent and effort across the board. We complete even when the game is lost. We used to give up after the first goal against

Remember when Hasek was considering a comeback in 2011, and he said that he actually reached out to Lindy and Darcy about it? Fans actually called into WGR and posted comments saying that they should trade Miller for a goal scorer and start Enroth, with Hasek as his backup.

I didn't compare Dom, I was using Montreal last year to this year as an example of what a goalie can do for your team.

Not saying the best goalie would get us to the finals but might get us to the playoffs.

Frank a 40 year old Anderson could probably get us to the playoffs if he could play enough.

reason 1206 to avoid wgr

I have no doubt hasek could have been ok on a 30 game schedule but that team was anything but special

What we need to be competitive next year:

1. Starting goalie that’s not UPL
2. Top 6 goal scoring winger
3. RHD
4. Center

Some of this can be filled from Rochester potentially.

Thoughts, and insert names of realistic possibilities

It was hilarious to hear the anger from fans that the Sabres turned Hasek down, after he reached out. He hadn't even STARTED a game in like 3 or 4 years by that point, and was past 40.

The leaf's game was lost on goaltending.

Last night could have been won with a better goaltender.

that's 2 in the last 4. Which puts us ina WC spot and gives this team even more to work for.

As bad as we play in final frames (which is expected from a young team) this team doesn't give up.

id say 80% of others teams back ups would have won that game for us

Aaron Dell is bad. Tokarski can be good, sometimes. The team in front of them is bottom 3rd of the league. xGA last night was over 4. Which means Dell was between par and bogey.

Individual Development. Say it in your sleep.

That's the lens to watch through in order to maintain sanity. I guess that's also why the last goal last night doesn't bother me too much. TT is likely the 3C of the future here. He needs that experience.

Agreed with 1, 3 and 4. Goaltending is an issue. We need to swap a left for a right D and Eakin stinks...

But with Olo, Tuch, Skinner, Quinn, Peterka and Asplund (Rosen in a couple years hopefully), I'm pretty surprised to see top6 goal scoring winger on the list at all, none the less #2. I understand Skinner isn't a great top6, neither is Asplund, but with a couple very promising youths in tow, that doesn't seem a dire need. Why 2nd?
