Whelp, it's been an additional 3 games in which you said a lot could happen. You were correct.

Leafs depth scored a bit
Leafs won 2 out of the 3 games

As I said that night, they are a true contender by the metrics. Yes, they still need to show up and not underperform in the playoffs but it doesn't make this team a non-contender.

Leafs look good. They’ve been solid defensively and have a great pk, but you can tell they have another gear they haven’t tapped into yet.

Winning these low scoring games with special teams is good news...they're playing patient with structure...the goaltending is an outstanding development

I know it's two games but if Woll is decently steady as a back up and with a team playing as it is, I don't see why they would keep Mrazek beyond this season. I wouldn't do anything in season but off season I'd definitely look to move him.

I think I know what you mean - Winning a Cup really is the ultimate, for sure. And maybe you don’t think that the regular is meaningless like some do, so I’m not necessarily chirping you directly (I am if you don’t think it matters at all) - but the notion that regular season doesn’t matter cause the Leafs need to get a playoff round before being proven to be good is not a sound hockey call.
The regular season is extremely important. Aside from the obvious that you need to actually qualify for the playoffs, it’s where you learn your lessons, fix mistakes, build chemistry, tinker with systems, find rhythms, form good habits, get a team identity, etc. I think (??) it was John Cooper who commented after TBay got swept in first rd that the following season was so incredibly important and it was the teams play and building in the regular season that he felt molded and shapes their team into a Championship team.
Now not saying the Leafs will win the Cup, in fact I wouldn’t bet on it (as is lineup) but they certainly are a legitimate contender and the regular season matters a lot for every team, especially the Leafs after what happened last year vs Habs.
