You just seem hurt about Marner is all.

You pin point small areas of his game and run with it.

- Santo_44

Edited.

Let’s drop the “butt hurt” attacks please everyone. It’s rather childish.

Should have let him sit. Ultimately he is from Toronto and said he wanted to be a leaf more than anything, Dubas should have tested him on that front before overpaying him just to get him signed.

Dubas thought he had a contender that year though, and as such couldn't let Marner sit. Or the media and fanbase would have tarred and feathered him for not getting him signed.

He should have been allowed to sit a hundred times before paying him for bonuses he agreed to forgo on his ELC, that part is a Marner problem and its not like it put him on food stamps. 🤷🏻‍♂️

One of Kyle's biggest whiffs as GM.

- joel878

Wasn't there a romour that before his end of his first contract there was a 9 mil cap hit contract on the table but the Leafs declines to sign.

yup a side step by dubas

Nylander didn’t sit long so obviously Marner and his agent knew he wouldn’t either.

Boom. Contract.

- Dozzer

Nylander sat until the deadline, he missed almost half the season and signed a contract much lower than was reported they were after.

Not sure how the Marner camp could view that as leverage. Let him sit the year and trade his rights before overpaying him. Because you already have a number of big contracts at that point. You can't overpay the last guy. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I do believe so. But also, I remember looking into it before and thinking that money would have been a massive overpayment when looking at his season prior.

They'd have to have projected the Marner explosion before it happened. Yep, I wish they did too.

He’s still top 5 in NHL scoring (last year) and he’s a serious consideration for the top line on team Canada.

No, he’s not a pure goal scorer but he’s everything else. (Except fighting obviously lol)

Which I can totally live with. I can also live without the PP goals as long as the PP is producing, which it has been so far this year.

It's playoff and early season Marner I can't live with at that money. Let's hope we don't see that Marner again, ever.

Yup, that’s the one thing that can be the snake bite for him to be fair.

If the goal scorer on his line has a slump, so does he.

I like him better with Tavares. Wish Keefe would stick him there and let it build.

Speaking of challenged offensively, my God does Engvall ever look bad at the hockey without Kampf and Kase. Like, pack your poop you're headed to the Marlies we don't care that it's between periods bad. 🤷🏻‍♂️

He could have sat out for his current contract is what I’m talking about. Wouldn’t matter if you agree or not. The leafs wouldn’t have gone long with that and would have paid him the 10.9 in the end.
- Dozzer

This is why the kid takes heat. Don't put it on the team. It was Marner who demanded the $. Contrast that with Rielly. His contract will never come up as an issue.

Engvall always looks decent even with this years linemates compared to last years.

Nothing exciting, just a bottom 6 guy who’s paid fairly

If the original GM f’d him over it’s on the team.

Since they allowed it to happen they were forced to decide if they were willing to sit their top winger or pay him what he wants.

Finished top 5 in NHL points last year. He’s not overpaid when everything is considered together.

He looks bad tonight. Lost, barfing up the puck all over the place. Hopefully just a bad game.

They didn't F him over. He signed the deal. And I don't think Mitch has the contract he has now if Lou was here to sign him.

If anyone screwed anyone on his first contract, mitch screwed mitch when he put pen to paper. He got em back and some though.

Imagine thinking you got royally screwed on your first contract when you're signing the second one that will put you over 70 million in career earnings by age 27.

6'4", well over 200 lbs, absolutely ripped, and ZERO bite to his game. In fact, does everything he can to avoid contact.

Hmmm, not so sure about that. Good teams don't settle for liabilities in their bottom six just because it's the bottom six. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The leafs wouldn’t sit him and because of that they’d have to give him what he wants

And if the GM let him sit the owners would have likely fired him no matter who it was, Lou or Kyle. The GMs have bosses as well, don’t forget that. Lol
