92 games without a powerplay goal and the (frank)ing guy scores shorthanded. 🤣🤣🤣

Would be great to see JT score and have the cameras pan to some Islander fans faces

Not to be rude... But I don't care, that's not an excuse to be paid 11 million and not be able to score on the PP. You could put Carlton on the PP for a hundred games and he'll score a couple. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Im confident Holl and Dermott would both be able to cash on the PP if they were given his opportunity over that stretch.

Ultimately it's moot if the team is scoring on the PP.

- joel878

Not to be rude, but you have to soon realize, hes not paid for his goals.
Hes a playmaker who can score (20 -25) but thats not why he gets the big bucks.
Matthews is paid to score.
Marner is the setup guy, specially on the pp

Yeah but that doesn't matter, it doesn't. That's called validation. The guy literally proved he can score, it can actually happen.

He has shot the puck on the powerplay, it does happen a lot more than you think. Being a passer first doesn't automatically disqualify his shot attempts.

It's as dumb as saying that Rielly gets paid the big bucks because he's an offensive first defenceman, so he is completely absolved of defending. Doesn't have to do that ever. 🤷🏻‍♂️

There's piles of "set-up" guys on powerplays around the league who aren't anywhere near Marners payscale who actually score on the powerplay. It does happen.

Ugh why do they consistently pass up shots in favour of trying to pass through 3 sticks...

I agree, he has proven he can score and I would like to see score a few on the pp as well.
But most of the time, hes in the set up position on the pp.

Also, none of those "piles of set up" guysy ou are referring to get 90+ pts a year. Hence, the difference in pay scale.
And before you go there, i agree he got a higher cap hit then he should have.
But its old news.

so because Campbell makes less than Mrazek your expectation of Campbell is less because he make less $$ than Mrazek ?

Watching the NHL feed and two fun facts I learned:

1. Leafs are first in the league in faceoffs

2. Matthews tributes the winning streak to no more business casual dress code

Oh man, people get so hurt in the ass if you dare hold Marner to a standard and then you end up defending your position for pages on pages. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Campbell has yet to sign his extension... Right? Be a little silly to hold someone to heightened expectations at 1.6 million per. It's moot anyways, Campbell is playing well above any standard any of us could possibly hold him too.

Mitch Marner is literally paid 10.9 (frank)ing million dollars a season, is it really that unrealistic for someone to expect a powerplay goal or two for that money. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Show me one other player who is paid above 10 million a season in this league with a stain on his record like 92 games without a powerplay goal, I'll wait.

I don't see the "set-up guy" as being that rare a commodity you need to pay 11 million dollars for it. You put 5 elite hockey players on the ice against 4, they're all set-up guys at that point.

Been quite awhile since I've seen Marner making those plays that make your eyes bug out and giving everyone around him ridiculous tap-ins, powerplay or not.

So you are ragging him for PP goals? One small singular part of the game?

Okay I’ll play. Show me players who had more EV points last season.

I’ll give you a hint, only 2 and they are pretty special players.

I’ll wait.

Wow.

I think Campbell has 3 so far as well.

I literally pointed out how crazy it was that he's gone 92 games without a powerplay goal yet he scored shorthanded, and now butt hurt Marner defenders are crawling out of the woodwork.

Just, don't play. I'd rather you didn't.

The goal? (frank) yeah, it was a nice goal.

What I meant is Marner used to make plays on the regular that made it seem like he was in the matrix and could see everything 3 plays before it happened. The goal was a nice play, but it wasn't like that. Think this league has figured him out to a degree. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Could be a bit of that, and he's not at a peak of his season currently. I still think he'll be over a point-per-game by the end of it.

I hope so, I really think he needs to simplify his game. 9 times out of 10 it just seems like he's still making moves after the song is over. One extra pass, one extra deke. Not only does that poop not work, it seems to result in turnovers more so than not.

It's obvious he has high end talent, don't over complicate it.

Far from it, again... I literally pointed out how crazy it was that he's gone 92 games without a powerplay goal and scored shorthanded. That's it.

When 3 different people come at you for that it kinda puts you on the defense 🤷🏻‍♂️
