No, you weren’t being piled on and you weren’t being particularly obvious. Leafs are playing in more low scoring games, not just against the Isles. - Canada Cup
Well, my mistake: I was making a general observation and wasn't limiting my response to your specific reply. Did we get there?
Per "low-scoring" games, I'm not convinced it's necessarily that this team has decided to play "low-event" hockey. The team is among the league leaders in xG, Corsi, Fenwick, and other fancy stats offensively. Of course, those stats don't exactly tell the full tale: our 5v5 (frank)ing sucks and the Leafs have an atrocious S% which leads me to believe they're not really getting good looks.
My reductive take: the Leafs are riding an unsustainable stretch of good goaltending (ignoring the feeble Isles effort last night) and it's disconcerting that a team like the Pens so thoroughly dismantled our offence. I'm hoping this last point is a blip and not a Leafs hack that teams can exploit.
Anyway, my opinion is probably too largely influenced by Katya's (PPP) observations on the team this season. There's a pretty good 20-game breakdown that I largely agree with if you want to understand where my skepticism stems from. |

I think we’re just getting going, new guys, lines will take some time especially with Keefe switching them up every other game/period/shift. - Garnie
Keefe's persistent line-blendering, which was also rampant last season, is pretty hilarious. |

Okay first of all xG tells you if a team has been getting good chances or not. So there is the answer to the bolded.
unsustainable goaltending? The Leafs goaltending isnt even in the top 10 for HDSV%. The Leafs are top 5 in limiting quality chances against.
The skeptics are people who won't change their minds until they win a cup. Have to evaluate the team in the present.
Kind of like how your "The North division sucks" argument in the offseason has been proven to be way wrong so far. |

Very nice win, another shutout. Just wandering in to see the Marner/Woll hate and what now the rafter swingers are worlds ending over here. |

xG is a fun stat but it ain't perfect and, even if it was, the Leafs are not scoring at 5v5 despite what this stat seems to indicate they should.
Campbell's QS% is unsustainably high. He's been a large reason why this team has been winning as it sure as poop isn't because of their lackluster offence. You could try to make a case that the defensive pairings have been good... but Muzzin/Holl, the shutdown pair, haven't been particularly effective through the first stretch of the season. The 3rd line consisting of Kampf/Kase perhaps is where we're seeing exceptional defensive hockey. Good on the Leafs for making that shutdown line a thing as it's about the only thing this year that has been pretty consistently great.
Skeptics are people who aren't easily convinced by surface level evidence. They aren't contrarians and they aren't Kool-Aid fanboys.
You keep trying to inject this narrative that the North Division didn't suck balls last year using some kind of retroactive assessment of this year's fortunes to last year's. That's (frank)ing absurd as the variables this year - new personnel, new division, games outside of the division, Keefe's willingness to separate his Core 4 in the Top 6, etc. - make it impossible to perform a valid comparison between this year and last.
The North did (frank)ing suck last year, Santo, despite your protestations otherwise. That's a hill I'll die on. |

So we should waste 750k on a 26 year old doing well in the AHL when they have him on a capless show me contract? I don't get it. He'd also have to go through waivers. |

I watched the Isles feed last night and it was pretty homerific all game. - mjones242
Me and a few of my buddy's got a group chat going and we text during the game. They were watching the stream of the Islanders and were talking about it and I didn't believe they were as bad as they were saying.
Wow, was I (frank)ing wrong on that one. |

Tell me why it sucked ? It just sounds like you are too stubborn to be wrong here.
All those teams aren’t massively different. There was not some massive overhaul for all those North Division team.
The North division had the cup finalist and now have multiple top 10 teams this season.
Meanwhile you are basing your argument off of zero evidence. |

The Leafs and Ho-Sang had an agreement in place before the season started that he'd play the entire season with the Marlies. Avoid all distractions and play the way he can for them. Then they'll go for next season.
I think he'd fit well on the Leafs right now, though. |
