Marner's best moment of the season. Also his play on the final goal was pretty great as well. Glad to see him getting out of that terrible hangover slump. - AdamFrench
Agreed, now if Matthews started shooting a little more, with his normal precision, it would make the California trip interesting.

Isles in a 5 game regulation losing skid coming into last night's game with a number of players on COVID protocol, and where they were essentially as much an "Away" team as the Leafs (only their 2nd game ever at the new digs).
Happy the Leafs won and Woll got the shutout but I'm not planning any parades. That was a boring game from start to finish despite the disparity in shots. They dominated the Isles, I guess. 🤷 - mjones242
Last 4 games, 9 goals total, 3 against. I’m loving these low event games. Boring is fine.
I’m also loving that as soon as anybody points out a positive - that Leafs are playing a different way - we go to the parade planning line.
They’re still having games where they give up way too many goals and there are still times in games where they get a bit frantic but there has been the clear start of a change. |

Goal differential is headed in the right direction, unfortunately for Scabby and the Habs, not so much.

Are you implying we're scoring more or less?
Because I'm not sure which one is "the right direction" for Montreal.

The right direction is the one that leads directly to 9th place in the east |

I love how people get piled on in here if you're critical or you give a so-called "negative" assessment.
For the record, I'm not here to be a contrarian Richard. You'll just have to excuse me when I'm not as impressed with a performance like last night against a team that has been absolutely lost the past 5 (now 6) games in a row. Talking to an Isles fanboy cousin of mine last night, he's about ready to pack it all in this season. Hell, I was even taken aback by his despair.
I'm not entirely convinced the Leafs are attempting to play "low event" hockey, but their lack of 5v5 production is certainly eyebrow raising. |

Lol. One person responding to you is piling on? We’re disagreeing. But you do a have a great debating technique of responding very selectively to posts. I point out the last 4 games and you again revert back to the Isles.
The fact is that the Leafs are among league leaders in goals against per game. They’ve had some bad games but they are playing a more defensively focused game. They also haven’t even converting on 5v5. This could all fall apart in a heartbeat but to ignore it and any positive sign from the team is silly. |

Leafs: 3rd best GAA in the NHL. I thought 7th best last year was due to the weak North? |

At -26 worst in the conference, second worst only to Arizona in the NHL. If tanking is the strategy than I guess one could argue its going ok. Watching the Habs get booed off the ice in the Bell Center, is a unlikely to go on without consequences to management and team though. I guess they really miss Kotkaniemi

Yes this is a more likely outcome than a bottom 5 finish. The Habs can get the next Poehling.

I'm not convinced Carolina's overpaid 4th line centre would have made a difference this year.
It's all good, sell some assets, draft good players, bounce back. |

He's looking decent these days. Might just fulfill his potential of being a good 3rd line centre in the NHL.

Last night I found it funny that the Isles were absolutely in a game that we would call "leafy" and expect to lose.
Isles in New building.
Facing a team having trouble scoring 5v5.
With a rookie goalie in his 2nd game ever.
Leafs had to travel.
Leafs have had trouble with depth scoring.
It felt like they couldn't buy a goal.
I'm digging the leafs style right now. High possession with low goals against. The defense has suspects in the line up but so far the sum is greater than its parts.
I know around here on this forum people kept whining about the leafs not "playing the right way to win" so it looks like they have. Hopefully it continues. |

Are there any decent candidates to replace Bergevin? Houle is still in the Habs organization isn't he?

Still tons of games left, I’m sure some of these stories may change by end year, but hopefully not. |

I’m sure having a pile of regs not playing isn’t helping the Isle either.

Réjean's son is our AHL coach.
And as far as candidates go... depends if they truly intend on having a french speaking GM moving forward... if they do... I guess either Roy or Mathieu Darche?
