Can you think of anyone recently on staff that was an ex player that was legitimately good on draws? Because I can't.
- JRR1285

What’s Dom Moore up to these days? Pretty sure he was always good on FO’s.

Edit: Meant as an instructor, not roster player

Looking at their roster, seems like Gurianov would/could be a good swap for Kravtsov. A little older, plays both wings, showed promise last year but could benefit from a change in scenery. Gurianov + Glendening for Krav???? Get some more G's up in this lineup

it's probably too early for Dallas to pack it in so it's unlikely that trade will occur anytime soon anyway
- picklerick

I agree, Pavleski is too important to that Dallas team this early in the year. Come February though, they might be willing to entertain it. That is why I mentioned Glendening though. Less vital to the current team and the addition to the Rangers would be invaluable right now just for his faceoff prowess.

As long as they are both real swell guys then we're good

Also, Gurianov has a left handed shot with a mean one-timer and plays off wing. The opposite of Mika and Bread.

Kravtsov and a pick.

Dallas has a need for young defensemen, I am sure Jones would be part of the cost...

That seemed like a "we tried everything else now let's think outside of the box" approach
- picklerick

I thought it was a solid idea. I'm not about to try defending the results so far, that's for sure. But, hiring the linesman at least gives you a clear understanding of what you are and are not allowed to do. Just didn't pan out the way they hoped.

i'm not bashing the fact that they did it. it's just that i don't think there's much we can do to fix the FO% with the personnel we currently have. if it were that easy everyone would be 50% and no one would better than anyone else.

Reaves has been nothing but a pleasant surprise. They showed a clip of the fight and you could see Rooney grinning ear to ear in the background. It must be such a relief for the whole team to know when things go sideways they have one of the baddest in the league to back them up.
- newenglandpuck

you guys should have seen him when he was younger. He had speed and was a very good 4th liner grid the hell out of people and made the defenders hurt during dump in chase. He is the only one in the league that wilson is afraid of and he has proven it time over time.

Also Tarasenko is for sale.

I have been saying it for years, it doesn't matter how much you practice. If the dude across from you is just better they will win the majority of them

I'm not completely disagreeing with you I'm just saying that the organization is simply not bringing in the right people to help them improve. Whether that is a player or two to learn from or a coach that was an elite faceoff guy during his playing career. They have done neither of those things. Unless you can practice all the time against quality opposition you're never going to get better.

The reps they are getting during actual games is helping I'm sure but they need someone worthwhile to practice against outside of games.

I'm just waiting for someone to say either "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" or "it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog" so I can throw my computer out the window into traffic

I thought you already did that when you found out the Islanders would be icing an AHL team for the foreseeable future.

Between Wednesday and Thursday I worked 25 hours out of a possible 48.

Reaves still has surprising straight line speed.

Go peddle Tarasenko over on the Devils or Islanders boards.

Seriously, get someone on staff that was solid/elite on draws. Preferably someone who has played somewhat recently since there have been some rule tweaks.
- JRR1285

Have we ever thought that winning a faceoff is not sole responsible on the center? The wingers play a huge role on majority of the draws.

This would be a coaching issue on why we can't win the scrambled draws.

You're not wrong but like Rick said the winger can't teleport 15-20 feet away on a clean win. The center has to at least give his supporting cast a fighting chance.

For sure. A 20% draw win ratio is almost unheard of. I don't put an unrealistic amount of stock in it's importance, but that is historically bad.
