When healthy.
ADB Dach Kane
Hagel Toews Kubalik
Johnson Borgstrum Kurashev
Khaira Carpenter Hardman
Gaudette rotating in

DeHaan Jones
McCabe Murphy
Jones Stillman
Gus rotating in

Fleury
Lankinen rotating in

Not terrible.

- Ztra

I'd really like to Toews and Dach switched. Dach might progress more offensively playing with Hagel and Kubilik where he'd have the puck more and learn to create better without having Kane the primary puck controller. As for Toews, he's not creating much and playing with Kane might get him more chances to score ?? IDK....just a thought to try and get more scoring chances out of the top 6.

OK so you have a wait and see on Dach, fine. Even though he is the best they have
in youth up front. He's learning without would have been the proper preparation with time in the AHL. Thansk for that Stan.

But all you seem to be doing here is dancing around the edge of recognizing what reality is, which is this team doesn't have much young talent and needs to be reconstructed, almost totally. Into a promising young team, with size. I said the Hawks have 5 players that matter, 2 of whom are playing out the string. They might stick around beyond next year, maybe not. If those 5 or 6 guys you mention are significant contributing pieces looking ahead 2-3 years, fine great. But I have my doubts about any of them.

Hagel - I like the way he plays, but far from untouchable. Can he get the Hawks a return from a contender like Tampa paid for Goodrow or Barclay at the trade deadline? If so, do it.

Kurashev - I want to see him slotted at center for awhile. Is there something there going forward?

Borgstrom is 23 already, back from Finland. Not much ice time under the new coach. Why? Probably should be in Rockford.

C.Jones, Stillman - spare parts only on a winning team, so who cares. Trade pieces to accrue decent draft picks.

Goaltending - nothing much there long term.

Dach, Reichel, Debrincat, S.Jones, Kane, Toews to start the overhaul. They will win some games but its what Davidson (or whoever) does with the rest of the roster. Not an easy job. Can't have any sacred cows.

First of all, I never dance.

I get what you are saying. I always get hung up on the "full rebuild" concept when I look at EDM. They were built almost entirely of young players and it took forever for them to get close (and I'm still not buying on them now). My personal stance is that you need guys there that understand the non-skill aspects of the game to help make well rounded players. In my mind that means having some guys at various stages of development - hence Hagel, Kurashev Borgstrom, etc. Not necessarily them specifically, but more seasoned guys.

When I originally answered your question, I was coming from the view point of what I think will happen (according to what we've heard thus far.

BTW, what did you end up opening? Enjoying a Lynmar Pinot Noir myself, because if I am anything here it is pretentious.

Per CapFriendly, Tyler Johnson has been activated. So with TJ and C Jones back, who sits tomorrow? I’m hoping for R Johnson and Gus, but they’ll probably sit Borgstrom and Stillman.
- Angotti

C Jones should play two games conditioning stint AHL.

Sooner or later an evaluation of players .must include giving Borgstrom 2nd line with descent linemattes and no short TOI

I tried Caymus Cabernet of an older vintage (want to say 2012?) at a business function a few years ago, PFG is kind of an understatement don’t you think?

The 23 man roster below leaves 1.7 mil Cap/LTIR available. (Capfriendly Armchair GM) So there is some flexibility to swap around low cap waiver exempt players.
I think when it comes to Connolly they might be worried about losing him in waivers if he doesn't stick when recalled.

FORWARDS
Borgström, Henrik
Carpenter, Ryan
Connolly, Brett
Dach, Kirby
DeBrincat, Alex
Gaudette, Adam
Hagel, Brandon
Johnson, Tyler
Kane, Patrick
Khaira, Jujhar
Kubalik, Dominik
Kurashev, Philipp
Strome, Dylan
Toews, Jonathan
DEFENSE
De Haan, Calvin
Jones, Caleb
Jones, Seth
Kalynuk, Wyatt
McCabe, Jake
Murphy, Connor
Stillman, Riley
GOALIES
Fleury, Marc-André
Lankinen, Kevin

- GreenJeans

That would be a good thing.

Kurashev is no better or even as good as Pius Sutter. Nobody gives decent draft picks for "spare parts."

How would anybody know if he never gets some time in the position? As a junior with Quebec he was a pretty good playmaker in the middle. And who gives a damn about Pius Suter who is 3 years older, smaller and clearly someone the Hawks weren't interested in paying $3.2M.

If I was drafting right now and both Kurashev and Suter were on the board, I’d take Kurashev. Kurashev battles along the boards and we have not seen his offensive potential yet, for one, due to not getting the proper opportunity.

He's 22 and only has played 70 games. It's not what he is now its what can he be as he hits the prime years of his career.

I know the purists out there may well flinch, but I love a porter any day, week or month of any year.

And I hope the 'Hawks give Edmonton a good game tomorrow night.

I was impressed with Kurashev's pass to Kane on Kaner's goal cause he made that pass at top speed. Kurashev's problem is a normal one for young players, consistency. has a tendency to disappear for a few games.

The new asst. coach was Kurashev's head coach when he played in Switzerland. Would like to see Kurashev between ADB and Kane and see what happens.

That just shows you his untapped talent, he needs to be given an opportunity to play with more skilled players, if Carpenter and Khaira can play on the second line, then someone with Kurashev’s skill needs that same option. The Hawks need more skill in the top six, that’s a given, either they develop that talent or trade for it, although if they acquire through trade, it must be a young asset. Bottom line is that they are not going anywhere this year, let’s see what guys like Kurashev and Borgstrom can do at least playing top nine.

I'll go full line jumbler here boys and even throw a bone to LAHAWK:

ADB-Toews-Kane
Hagel-Kurashev-Kubalik
Dach-Strome-Borgstrom
Khaira-T. Johnson-Carpenter (sub Entwistle when healthy)

Let's get it!

Anyone know how competitive the International U20 league is? I was going down a rabbit hole of looking up recent draft picks and saw Raty sitting at 20 pts in 11 games. I'm sure that is good, I just didn't know how good.

Edit: Sorry, it is International Junior. He's on the Finnish U20 team.

I'm all for just letting King do his job. Let him get a feel for this team and go from there. His team is 4-0 by telling his team to relax and just play the hockey you grew up playing. I know some are minimizing the schedule and not seeing what's going on in front of the goalie, but there's NHL talent on this club, it was missing a coach who could lead it.

I don't touch line 1, it's working with Dach at Center

Don't like Khaira on that Toews line but they aren't upside down at the end of the night.

I think moves in the line up will be made but with purpose not like the past and a coach saying it shouldn't matter who's on what line?

The problem with Toews right now, he is the only one on his line that can create. Kubalik is a finisher, Toews can set people up to score (leads the Hawks in Primary 5v5 assists) but he is rarely with linemates that can create a chance. Always get the best out of Toews when he has a playmaker on his line to help create offense.

I think when Hagel comes back the Toews line will be more productive.

Rangers looking for a top 9 forward who can occasionally play top 6. Kubalik for the Rangers first, Strome for the Rangers second. Get'er done Kyle

Speaking of those that took awhile to develop, how many teams did Anthony Duclair play for before he bet on himself with Ottawa and now playing top 6 with the Panthers?
