That 4th line is abominable. There might be room for one of those guys, as 13th Forward, on a quality NHL roster, but all 3 is pathetic. - Ogilthorpe2
Which line is the 4th line I can't tell? |

The bolded is the operative word. Yes, they should (or shouldn't). The NHL is riddled with players that don't.
I'm impressed with how the team has limited the really strong scoring chances. They still give up too many, but there is a lot better coverage. I was duped into thinking that the team would be better this year (Toews back, in theory better D players, etc). If they win some games, great but I'm not expecting big things this year. Considering everyone is interim at this point, I would just work on developing everyone to the best of their ability.
Your last two paragraphs there are a great illustration. - Chunk
Things are less obvious with Hossa and Saad no longer on the team.

Yeah, it has been difficult. For me, i will put the espn app on, and it will display the game I info, but if I do not go back to the initial screen and engage espn+, it says no access.
I watched my first TNT game and came off entertained. - wiz1901
If you donwload the NHL app, it lists all the TV coverage for both markets for all games. |

The Hawks desperately need secondary scoring.
I think getting Khaira off the second line and Hagel and Johnson returning will help that. But now it is a 3-trick pony with Kane, DCat and Jones. - Popsghostly
Line proposals that might help spread the offensive outinstead of one line. When Hagel comes back have a feeling won't see Johnson for awhile.
Kubalik towes Kane
Dcat dach Borgstrom
Hagel strome Kurashev
Gaudette carpenter Karia
Keep Reese Johnson up send Hardman down so he can play more minutes and work on stuff so he better rounded player going forward. Reese to me is extra most likely not in long term plans for the Hawks.
Jones c Jones s
McCabe Murphy
Dehann stillman
Gus

Johnson was one of those diamond in the rough guys that Bowman tried to hit a home run on. Two ok offensive seasons in junior but it appears his game isn’t translating in the pros. I imagine his next stop will be Europe. - paulr Pretty hard to make a big impression when you get 4 shifts a period on a good night.
Might be nice to let the kid play more than 20 games before making a determination on him. I rather watch him than Carpenter or Khaira fumble the puck every time its near them. |

Let’s see how the hawks play against teams that aren’t the Kraken the Coyotes or the Preds. - paulr
I get you on SEA & ARI, but Nashville is 3rd in the Central right now. |

You are right, Gaudette hasn’t shown anything, but hasn’t had many opportunities either. Johnson is getting opportunities and not adding value, let’s see what they have with Gaudette, at least he produced 33 points in 59 games with Vancouver a couple of years ago. - Angotti
What value are Khaira and Carpenter adding? We know what they are as players. Johnson is getting at most 4 shifts a period. What exactly do you want to see from him?

Maybe King is playing them because he knows them and is comfortable with them? Notice they were playing at the end of the game, not Kubalik, Khiara, etc. And outside of the first exhibition game against Detroit, what has Gaudette done to warrant more time? Sounds like his former linemate in college (Dylan Sikura) syndrome. I thought this board was cured of that. - LAHawk
We can always pine for Strome in the line-up. BTW, did he play last night? |

Not noticeable just trade him already along with carpenter karia and dehann maybe get a 4th for all them combined. How many did Borgstrom get? So far king is no better than JC imo same problems new voice. |

Right because 2 goals against is the same as 4 goals against per game. |

Borgstrom got the least amount of minutes for a forward, Strome second least. Everyone who wanted Kubalik to get more minutes h was third most (even more than ADB) at almost 20. Looks like the same flawed player, no matter how many minutes you give him. I will say that was one of the better games Dach has played this year. |

Last night jumped the Hawks over both SEA & VAN in the standings, now 6 points behind VGK for the 2nd WC spot.
EDM has the highest points % in the West .733
11-4-0 overall
6-1-0 at home
9 of 11 wins in regulation |

Not really. He's playing the best players together (Kane and Debrincat and Jones is on a lot of shifts with them) soooo that's a pretty significant change that is at least producing some goals.
They're also doing more situational line deployments and not just throwing guys out there because "everyone should be able to do the same thing no matter what" philosophy. |

IMO NHL ice time is a most valuable commodity and it's finite. Only x amount of it making it extremely valuable. That said where are the Hawks? Are they giving that ice time to Borgstrom/R Johnson/Kurashev/Hardman/Stillman/Slavin, maybe even a Gaudette, types for 20 game stretches to see if and how they fit in long term plans or are they giving that ice time to Carpenter/Khaira/T Johnson types to put the best available lineup out to win games today?
Same question as we had with the last regime. Are they in win now mode, rebuild on the fly or a tear down rebuild or like they've been for 5 yrs, straddling the fence wasting yrs?
I understand they wanna take it slow and evaluate before they hire a GM and coach but are they wasting valuable NHL ice time doing so? Sutter took over a Flames squad in season last yr knowing they weren't gonna win but he had 50ish(?) games to evaluate the roster, got rid of players that didn't fit, got ones that did and hit the ground runnin this yr.
That doesn't make sense to the Hawks? Or going by the warm reception the hockey world has given interim GM Davidson and coach King they will take the path of least resistance, and cheapest, and they feel they have their evaluators for next yrs team in place? .......... Said this after Davidson made his debut answering questions and then given full reign to do as he wishes with the roster we have the next GM in place.
If I'm right what are they, Davidson the GM, doing with NHL ice time now and what does it say about will they be in rebuild or win now mode next yr? ........... I'd at least love to see Borgstrom to get a real 25 game stretch at 3C to see what's there.

Edmonton? lol. I predict 7 to 1 Oilers. If Toews gets two the Oilers are up by a bunch and Keith pressures them to let Toews score. |

General question. I know he isn't "the answer", but wouldn't Connolly be better than Hardman, R. Johnson, Gaudette (at this point at least) and likely even Carpenter? - Chunk
They have cap issues bringing Connolly back. |
