Hearing VAN owner Francesco Aquilini to meet with GM Jim Benning this afternoon. Neither individual will comment, but from what I understand, this is a meeting to understand why the team is losing and address it, not to make a change at the position.

I thought you were opposed to panic moves to rush the process?

- dbot

It's not a panic move, it should've been done 4 or 5 years ago.

Maybe by "address it" they mean trading away more picks and prospects to bolster the team?
- NewYorkNuck

Probably.

Saving the season? Stopping Benning from trading away more draft picks? Keeping fans involved and interested in the team?

Benning is going to tell him he was wrong and it will take three years not two.

Separate issues.

As has been reported, meetings between FA and JB are reportedly happening now to address the dismal play of the team this season.

Firing the GM or coach without a solid plan or replacement would be the definition of a panic move.

A panic move would be a big trade and hope it solves the problem, firing the GM and/or coach would be recognization that there's a problem and accountability for it. This isn't just this season, it's been /8/ years of this, it's time for heads to roll.

Saw this on Reddit today:

Sportsnet650 Shah: "Based on some of the convos Ive had today, org is in a state of shock because of whats happening. I don't believe they anticipated this happening this early. Theyre completely caught off guard of whats happened. There wasnt a plan for a contingency this season this early on."

FA wasn't thinking the team would be terrible (again) so didn't even think of any contingency plans. I guess the "day to day" mandate comes from FA?!

I don’t want to lose Benning, his eye for young talent is something that would be sorely missed

Where did I say that there was no back up plan in place?

I saw that too.
A more surprising headline would have been:
Dion Phanuef was still playing hockey yesterday.

All good bro.
If you feel that mgmt has a solid back up plan in place, then great.
I don't believe that they do and are going to take time to review their options.

15+ games in and no moves made how long do they wait 25 game mark?

looks like Green is safe for another 10 games lol

I reckon we'll know more today or the next few days.

I just want a solid plan, not a knee jerk reaction based on fans/media pressure.

Can't really leave Green more slack at this point. 10 more games of this and the season is done. Hoping for something this week I think JB has a plan...Green not so much.

either you restrain JB in any and all consequential moves knowing that you're going to replace him in the offseason or you fire him now and put in an interim. the former is unworkable which only leaves the latter.

if you fire green, who chooses the replacement? if it's jb, do you tell him it can only be for a one year/two year contract? that effectively lets him know that he's already been fired but they're just waiting to notify him.

if you need this season to decide what to do with either of these guys, you need to have someone else make the decision.
