Horvat is far from what’s wrong with the team, he’s not a consistent offensive player but he does get his points, he’s great on draws for puck possession and responsible defensively. He is what he is, look around the league and tell me how many fights each captain has…very few of them fight!

The team has talent but they’re poorly coached and the team is poorly constructed. Just my opinion but JT Miller needs to go, he can have a 100 point season but if he’s an issue, which I think he is, and the teams losing…it’s means absolutely nothing.

Just my opinion, but I think Miller's a bad apple. Coach Green seems to love him and panders to his needs which upsets the chemistry of the other players on the team.

Miller seems to get into Boeser's kitchen and subsequently so does Travis Green. In Boeser they have a kid who scored 55 goals his first two years in the league, but Green always seems to be on him because he doesn't play like Miller. Boeser's game is quiet, he's not flashy, he's doesn't bang and crash...but he's a natural goal scorer. Yeah, let's run him out of town, he's the problems for the Canucks lot in life

I know this will never happen with Benning, but, Miller should be traded for defensive help. I'd even trade Pettersson for defensive help if you wanted to do a re-rebuild or more correctly for Benning...a re-re-tool

You know, there are around 800 guys who play regularly in the NHL every season, last season in a 56 game schedule only 40 of them scored 20 or more goals. It's very difficult to score goals in the National Hockey League, yet we have a kid in Boeser who's had THREE 20+ goal seasons in his four NHL seasons...but we should get rid of him? Makes no sense to me.

As I said, I believe Miller is a bad apple, he'd look good in Florida for Spencer Knight and a 1st round pick. Or trade Miller AND Demko to Los Angeles for Brandt Clarke, Quinton Byfield and a draft pick plus a salary dump?

There is a reason NY and Tampa were willing to get rid of him.
It sure helped that Benning was offering a 1st to a cap impaired team.

Correct; If the chemistry on the team is as bad as suggested, everything should be on the table.

"Would a meddling sports team owner be afraid to fire a GM because he realizes that if he fires him, he won’t be able to call the shots and will likely need to cede complete control to a new GM. Asking for a friend."

Spend 7 years developing a player until he one of the best in the league at his position, is just starting a 5 year deal at a reasonable cap hit, and trade him because I dunno we need to restart

it really depends on how scorched earth you want to go with a rebuild.

If you look at Arizona, they got a 1st for keumper, 1st for dvorak, 1st for garland, offloaded OEL for 1 year contract hell in LE/Beagle/Roussel.

I think an argument can be made that Demko is still young enough, and to a point, developing into a true starter, that you could keep him.

Like Lefty said though, Miller and Horvat are going to be at the wrong side of 30 soon. They still have massive value, and are on seemingly reasonable contracts. Sucks to lose good players, but if they want to rebuild properly like they should have done after 2011/2012, it might have to be done.

With like 2000 plus PIM, he was probably just all around tough. This soft Canucks team could use a GM that's tough.

I just like that he has been GM/owner of one of the best OHL clubs for two decades. Was a scout, so recognizes talent. Was there in STL when they drafted Pietro, Tarasenko, Schwartz.

It would be insane to trade him now that he's finally coming into his own. The organization has invested so much time and effort into him and he is clearly legit, it would be an embarassment to throw that away. I'm not necessarily protesting trading another core player, but specifically for Demko it makes 0 sense imo.

Agreed. I'd add EP as well, as his good hockey out-weights his bad still. I can't think of any other absolute can't trade though? Maybe Garlund? But yeah.....why can;t we have a Troy Terry story vs. EP story hahaha

From Drance:

Another knock against the leadership of the organization. Didn't know Benning or Aqua hadn't addressed the media in that long. Horvat and Green shouldn't be the ones needing to address the media about the state of the organization, they need to be focusing on what they can control.

I love when Vancouver fans/ media make an issue when Benning doesn't address the media. First of all I don't know of any NHL GM or owner I've seen more than once a year .

Secondly who in their sound sober mind would want to listen to Benning's voice say you know 180 times in a five minute speech.

You miss his voice ? Go watch Saturday morning cartoons (Elmer Fudd). You miss his intelligence ? Go watch Homer Simpson.

New blog is up, setting the scene for Wednesday's game and adding some background from Elliotte Friedman on all the noise around the team.
