Boeser, Demko and Hoglander all genius picks

Pod also looking great so far for a non-top 5 pick

I’m not concerned with the drafting. JV & OJ didn’t pan out. Depth rounds I’m ok with. Team Identity is where I struggle with this roster. Outside of JTM OEL & Garland only Hog is bringing it at a higher level. Pod is coming along fine. Hughes has been Hughes. The rest are not doing anything much to help drag the team outta this hole. Bo is a bit off not much.

Yeah, something definitely feels off with the team, especially during this past week. I don't think talent is the issue, perhaps something behind the scenes

They might be fragile being so young. Kids think everything can only get better. It’s both a sign of complacency & entitlement. 2 traits that are far from being a pro. They find out fast there is 31 other teams with hungry players who want it more. It’s that simple.

Sam Girard is available. Ship out Miller to Colorado, Hughes to Rangers, Islanders or Devils for a young forward.
Team gets younger, cheaper and better, then trade Pouty to Buffalo for Cozens and the problems in the room are all gone and the retool on the fly is in midstream.

So you hate Hughes but like Girard? After watching him play in the playoffs last year vs Vegas? Interesting

No I don't like Girard, but he is 2+ million cheaper for exactly the same player

I don't think a career high of 34 points on a better offensive team is "exactly the same player"

Girard = 0.44 PPG
Hughes = 0.77 PPG

Ya, because we should compare players who have one of the best defenseman in the game to a team that is starving for offense from the back end.
Girard has Makar on the team and the Canucks have Myers on the team, as your other point producing defensemen

You made the comparison by saying they're exactly the same

Either you can compare them, or you can't because their teams/personnel/etc are different. You don't get both there Reuby

Fair enough.
They are very similar in style, puck handling, skating, height, weight, and defensive inabilities.

One gets paid 5 million and the other one gets paid over 2 million more.

From Drance:

That the meeting between hockey operations leadership and ownership was so publicly revealed isn’t harmless and the leak didn’t benefit anyone involved a single iota.

Friedman’s report occurred about an hour prior to a fast-paced, battle-drill filled practice at Rogers Arena on Tuesday, which meant that Canucks players and head coach Travis Green had to answer — once again — for the seemingly arbitrary whims of a chairman who hasn’t faced open questions from the media in eight years and his general manager who hasn’t done so in six weeks.

For what feels like the 100th time in just the past year, captain Bo Horvat was trotted out to the podium in the media room at Rogers Arena to address a matter far outside his control. In a sunken voice and a deeply frustrated gait, Horvat said the right things and conducted himself with dignity, as usual, addressing the scrutiny club leadership is under and his perpetually overmatched club’s persistent struggles.

Then it was Green left to answer the type of pointed questions from media that no other senior leaders in the organization ever seem to have the appetite or statesmanship to step up and handle themselves.

Another knock against the leadership of the organization. Didn't know Benning or Aqua hadn't addressed the media in that long. Horvat and Green shouldn't be the ones needing to address the media about the state of the organization, they need to be focusing on what they can control.

No, Bo shouldn't, but then he's the captain and the spokesperson for the players and he has a responsibility to answer questions in that capacity as to the state of the team. Green definitely as he has say in both personnel and in executing whatever plan the GM has given him and input into that plan. Though Benning SHOULD be speaking in his capacity as GM as it's his ass on the line if the team doesn't make the playoffs this year. FA on the other hand, what is he going to say really? He can't really say much except give Benning and Green a vote of confidence unless he wants to really make them lame duck employees.

At this point, unless FA is going to fire Benning and/or Green, there's no point in hearing from him. No matter what he says, it won't benefit him or the team, and will only stoke the rumors that he's too hands on. You don't see Tenebaum from the Leafs speaking, or Melnyk in Ottawa, or Katz in Edmonton... that's what the Presidents and GMs are for, to speak for them.

For FA, it's more that it's been 8 years since he's spoken to the media in that capacity. You don't normally hear from owners, but this owner is VERY hands on, and shapes the team much more than he probably should. I don't think he'd have to be speaking now, but over the course of 8 years while tweeting things out, issuing statements, pulling advertising as he doesn't like what he's heard... you'd expect him to be open to questions. It's partly his vision for the team.

I would think as a GM – if it were me – I'd try to shield the coaches and players as best I could, especially at a time like this. They're down, they don't need to be bludgeoned by a mob of reporters over things that I could handle.

But yes, Bo and Green need to be available for their respective roles, but not the extent of questioning they do/are/have been, and definitely not as frequently.

Pfft, Horvat is a wimp, he should have fought the media to stick up for his coach and teammates.

Horvat is far from what’s wrong with the team, he’s not a consistent offensive player but he does get his points, he’s great on draws for puck possession and responsible defensively. He is what he is, look around the league and tell me how many fights each captain has…very few of them fight!

The team has talent but they’re poorly coached and the team is poorly constructed. Just my opinion but JT Miller needs to go, he can have a 100 point season but if he’s an issue, which I think he is, and the teams losing…it’s means absolutely nothing.

I know you were messing around, I just wanted to get my feelings out there on Horvat, as I'm a sensitive guy lol.
