Beach’s lawyer is trying to say that Beach’s potential career earnings were $60 to $100 mil. Uh …….. no

She may be overplaying her hand big time. The Hawks think that they have a strong legal position.

Average NHL salary is @$2.5
Average Career length is @4.5 years

Feel the same way. Played like a true warrior while in Chicago.

I don't think anyone here has ill will towards Keith. He was a monster while with the Hawks, and wanted to be closer to his son. I wouldn't be surprised if he also wanted a better chance at winning or even had an issue with Colliton, but it is what it is. He has been and will continue to be a strong piece for EDM.

The Canucks are going to fire Jim Benning and the Hawks will hire him in the off-season.
- DarthKane

Aren’t the Canucks firing Benning every year?

You’ve posted something similar before. Not sure why NCAA exempts the USHL or Canadian minor junior but not Major Junior players? If NCAA isn’t a route kids are interested in, although I believe they should be, the three CHL leagues seem to be the leagues most Canadian kids gravitate to.
- paulr

MJ gives the kids a stipend and the NCAA considers that to be a form of pay. That's why if a kid steps on the ice for 1 minute with a MJ squad for even a practice he losses NCAA eligibility.

Simply said a kid drafted out of the USHL or Jr A has no restrictions on where he can play at 19 yrs old, drafted or not, whereas a MJ kid has 2 options until he's basically done with Jrs eligibility. It's either an NHL roster or Jrs. .........

Nice comeback by the Oil to beat the Bruins tonite.

22+ minutes for that washed up bum Duncan Keith.

- RickJ

I've seen maybe 6-7 periods of the Oilers and Keith looks like a different player. Simply said it looks like the game has slowed down for him. He's not rushed (cuz he has options?) and seems to make the right decision every time.

And being in the great great country of Canada closer to family can't hurt either. Add he goes to the arena everyday to play with McDavid and Leon I bet this is the happiest Keith has been in yrs.

Brandon Sutter, who was taken 11th overall in 2007 has career earnings of approx. $35 million.

Beach was never going to play NHL. Balance on skates, loosing board battles. Never posted promising AHL numbers.Blackhawks need to prove that Beech was not destined for NHL.

I believe the mental abuse and.pain is one thing, but the other half of it is that this is a money grab by Beech. He deserves something for that abuse by Aldrich and Blackhawks follow up. I bet he settles for about $5 million. Facts appear to be 1). Dumb young kid just liked to drink and was irresponsible 2) unfortunste event happened 3) Beech never was a NHL prospect as he never overcame his hockey skills weakness 4) older and more mature, broke and needing money. He will get his payday.

If any of that were true then he would not have been selected in the 1st round. The bottom line is there is a lot of difficulty in proving a negative.

I imagine the only real basis is by comparing those drafted in the first round; there's no real way to project duration of a career - too many variables, but I imagine they go with the average as a starting point, and then look potentially at maybe punitive damages (maybe).

But, 100% he was a bonafide NHL prospect when he was drafted.

Dale's worst pick ever. Beach was a head case punk when he got here. He tore up juniors, but was a kid in a mans game up here. Who's to say he might have developed if he were in another organization. But I highly doubt it because his attitude wasn't right from the get go. If he matured mentally and physically it would have been late and Ogi's example of averages would have been the absolute ceiling and that's being generous. I don't blame the Hawks for wanting to negotiate a settlement rather than just roll over. Beach and his lawyer are going to score no matter what. But let's see what percentage gets donated back to causes for people that have been abused to make a decision on Beach's motivation for the lawsuit. The team could use the good PR for doing so as well.

The Lawyer will argue the "event" is what stopped him from reaching his potential.

Will argue career potential based on numbers in the jrs, and others who scored like that.

She will leave out the 100 who scored like that, and never made in the NHL and focus on the ones that have.

At least if I was a lawyer and had the case that's what I would do.

Two tweets from Rick Westhead (who certainly is anti-Hawks in this):

In a 2nd letter re "John Doe 2," the Blackhawks' attorney wrote that while the team will provide therapy for him, the team wants to review his “medical records, school transcripts, and income records” before it can understand how the assault by Brad Aldrich has impacted his life.

A lawyer for the Chicago Blackhawks today wrote to Kyle Beach’s attorney to say the team is refusing to make a settlement offer because the sides have “very different views” on what would constitute a fair resolution of this lawsuit…”
The NHL team wants to retain a mediator.

But it’s ok, Rocky - keep burying your head in the sand, listen to the lawyers, don’t come out until they say it’s ok. This will all go away soon.

Anyone notice Dawson Mercer lighting it up in NJ...18th pick last year...We chose Lukas Reichal at 17th...Was this is a mistake..

Meecer got his 4th was it last night.
Both will be good players
No mistake
I suggest Reichel will be a better overall player if you compare in a couple years. Mercer seems more the scorer and Reichel may garner more points. How they fit in on their respective teams/both could advance to lots of TOI but not first line any time soon

Right on. Slotting/matchups, partner/linemates and minutes matter a whole bunch but I'm stating the obvious. ..... Keith is in a good spot on the ice and in his head and it's wonderful to see.

If you call 8 points in 12 games lighting it up, OK. Mercer is a year older than Reichel, the Hawks are leaving Reichel in Rockford not because he is struggling, but to get big minutes and develop. Let’s wait about 5 years before deciding if the Hawks should of drafted Mercer.

I guess about 16 other teams mad the same error too, no?

Hmm, take a million dollar signing bonus at 18 or remain playing two more years and hope to stay a 1st round pick? Not a hard decision.

I realize I responded to this post already but forgot to add something. I'm not bagging on Major Junior only that the Indentured Servitude Clause bothers the hell outa me being pro labor in my DNA. ..... The 60 team CHL is still the greatest jr leagues in the world and I'm all for players/kids having as many options/choices/paths as possible. No path fits everyone.

And yes, you ask most any 10-12 yr old Canadian boy what his dream is and he'll tell you to win the Memorial Cup not the Stanley Cup. Same with a MN kid. He'll tell you his dream is to win the HS State Championship played in front of 20,000 people not to win the Stanley Cup.

You go into the corner taverns in those towns and I guarantee they talk more about that 1988, 1995, 2004 or 1977 State Championship/Memorial Cup winner than they do about the Stanley Cup winner... It's a part of their culture and it's local.
