Completely agree, but i think expiring contracts are the only thing they will trade away.

I’d flip Murphy for nearly any return. If Keith only got us Caleb Jones and a Third, I’d take a fourth rounder for Murphy.
- ObeseOprah

The Hawks extended him, and he is averaging 22 minutes a night. They are not giving him away for a 4th rounder, who is going to replace him? I think they will finally trade deHaan for hopefully a 4th, as his contract expires at the end of the year, and those are the type of extra defenseman that are picked up at the TDL.

I will respectfully disagree. Murphy is a reliable defenseman with good size, although you can’t win with six Dmen with Murphy’s attributes, as you need others with better skating ability, you can win with two Murphy types on your back end. And no Gus types please.

Theo - do you feel most of the young guys playing in Rockford understand why they are playing there vs. the big club? Do you think with King now with the Blackhawks some guys think they deserve a callup too? I hope players don't feel like they are not getting a shot and start demanding trades.
- powerenforcer

It seems that all prospects have a good head on their shoulders about developing in the AHL, even Nylander. He's admitted that spending time in Rockford is helping him gain more confidence in not just his game but also playing on a rehabbed knee.

Ehhhh, i still hate that he chases the puck, but with a guy like McCabe or whoever his partner is staying home and being responsible he's more tolerable to me. Haven't seen him being too far up ice on PKs this year, seen him turning and skating then turning back around to play defense understands he's on the slower side, checks, blocks shots, been passing better this year, so no not chopped liver, i said on one of these blogs i guess it took him around 500 games to figure it out. You wont hear anything from me if instead of chasing he starts playing the angles then I'll be really happy.

He may be playing 22 minutes a night, but when he’s on the ice good things rarely happen.
His Corsi is 37, Fenwick is 38, if you hate fancy stats hes a -13. If you really hate fancy stats he has 1 point.
The guy doesn’t pass the eye test or the numbers test, and Stan extending him was a mistake. And before you blame the team, his Corsi and Fenwick relative numbers are also atrocious. He’s replacement level at best right now, I’d rather use his cap space on just about anyone.

Well, with their record being 3-9, not sure anybody’s fancy stats are looking good.

Mr. R, I think there are good things about whatever route a player takes chasing his dream. Major Junior forever got away with paying kids $60/week, it probably isn't much higher now. And because of competitive pressure, they finally introduced a post secondary school scholarship program that looks after education when their junior career is done and they aren't going the pro hockey route.

But I would also caution you that the NCAA route isn't always paved with gold. Full ride scholarships don't apply to every athlete and frequently what was paid for one year is taken away the next. Some kids come home from the U.S. disappointed and go play the Canadian university route.

Best story of determination (or being a little slow academically) is Joel Ward. Played 4 years for that college hockey powerhouse University of Price Edward Island until he was 25 and then found a way to make the NHL and stick around for 12 seasons.

- RickJ

Absolutely no doubt if you peel back a few layers of the onion you'll find some terrible stories of kids losing their commitment even before they get to school, sometimes really late, leaving a kid scrambling for a place to play. And of course full rides are pulled after a yr or two at the school. Calling this rare might not be the right word but I don't hear/read too too many stories like this but just one is too many.

I'm all for as many paths as can be created for the kids cuz we all know each situation is different but all things being equal I see the jrs to the NCAA path the best. It's a slower more thorough path with the most options. The ability to play anywhere a kid chooses after he's drafted is key and you don't have that option coming outa Major Junior where it's an NHL roster or MJ until you're 20.

If I'm a kid and wanna play MJ I play my draft yr in the USHL or Jr A, get drafted then my next yr I go to MJ and then have the option to continue in MJ or can leave for the AHL.

What Aldrich did to Beach was terrible, that guy needs to be put away for awhile. Not sure this has been mentioned, but did Beach put himself in a bad situation? Well, playing strip poker with Aldrich present I would say yes. I don’t believe that this will go to trial, it will e settled out of court, but if it does go to trial you know that Rocky has multiple attorneys under his wing, and you can take it to the bank that the strip poker scenario will come into play. That’s it for me on this subject….
- Angotti

Rocky, Stan, Q, etc. were not the people in the room playing strip poker, watching porn, or anything else that happened. That was all Aldrich, suing the Hawks serves one purpose, that's where the $'s are.

Last year his JFresh card was very good. King said his #1 analytic stat is making the right play. His version of a plus and minus. if there is somebody I would launch for nothing is Kubalik. The only thing he does well is shoot, he can't pass, he can't stickhandle, and he certainly can't defend.

I like Khiara

McCabe he's not bad wish he'd keep his stick on the ice more in the defensive end, and kind of slow

McCabe's was a very small sample size. He is better than he has played so far. Been getting better of late.

Fleury confirmed starting. Rest of lineup TBD; King says there's one player who's iffy for tonight and that'll dictate things.

According to Susan Loggans, Kyle Beach’s attorney, an analysis she commissioned estimated Beach lost between $60 and $100 million in potential NHL earnings. The Blackhawks haven’t landed on a settlement figure yet, preferring to hire a mediator first.

-----

Lot of daylight here between Ogi's assessment and this one...no surprise they are looking for a mediator. Just curious for you lawyers on here, which side in a civil case selects and hires the mediator?

- pdx2ord

It would be pretty tough to prove that Beach should have made the NHL. His pedestrian numbers in the AHL say no, and pedestrian numbers in euro leagues kinda back that up. Considering he played 4 more years for the org, including signing a 2nd contract, it would be tough to make a case.

Yeah, seems that both of her cases might have significant challenges if they went to trial. Beach's case because of the reasons you state, conflicting memories/accounts, and the time that has passed. The JD2 case because of the difficulty in trying to prove the "butterfly effect" culpability of the Hawks in that situation.

So, like others have said, I fully expect they will eventually settle in both instances.

True. Also, it is tough to say you repressed the memory for a decade, and at the same time say that the event you didn't remember caused you to not make the NHL.
