I think the Leafs are similar to the Oilers. Lacks good depth and will not keep the puck out of there own net as the season progresses. I think the Flyers will do well against TML this year.

I can't be sure of whether or not we will play the same level as we did vs Wash as we haven't performed to that level consistently yet this year. Agreed on the Leafs. When the sledding gets tough, they'll collapse. Islanders for example will check them into oblivion when the whistles go away in the playoffs. They'll blanket the big 3 and force the Spezzas and Simmonds Kase Ritchie types to carry the mail. Gonzo..

We really have to see if the Flyers can get a full lineup and then play for a bit to really see where they're at.

guessing most playoff teams each year have about 60-65 winning %. With the top teams around 70% and bottom teams getting in with sub 60%.

That said, most playoff teams will lose 4 out of ever 10 games.

yes. I agree. It reminds me a bit of 2019-2020 season. Inconsistent until the February March timeframe when they took off. I said I wanted to see 20 games or so before I formed a full opinion, but it needs to be 20 games with a full lineup. Hoping that can happen at some point.

Caps were missing their entire 2nd line. The Flyers beat Edmonton but lose to Calgary 4-0. Beat Boston but lose to a depleted Pens team. See the inconsistency?
- MJL

6-2-2. Woukd want a larger sample size before looking for inconsistency. Can’t win them all but the two regulation losses were against teams at the top. Wouldn’t look to deep at it at first as it’s early in the season is all I’m saying. Pens are a rivalry game. IMO the team was on cruise control and shouldn’t have been. Took them too lightly.

The inconsistency is there. No debating that. I don't think they took the Pens lightly. I think they just go outplayed. Just as they have in a number of games. Including game they've won.

And I bet you had to look this up. They were chipping in assists here and there but they didn’t start scoring until the last three games. So thanks for painting a misleading picture, boss.

It's been one of the leading NHL-related news items over the past week or so. Guess you haven't been paying attention but decided to run your mouth anyway?

Don't worry, it's been determined that it should be no problem for the Flyers to beat the Leafs. The Flyers have a defenseman in Ristolainen playing great hockey and the Flyers have been playing great.

Problem is, Flyers aren't the Islanders and the whistles haven't been swallowed yet. If they don't forecheck like they did in the Caps game, they could get into trouble.

Last season at the 10 game mark they were 7-2-1.

The Flyers (and Risto individually) can have good games here and there, but I'm not gonna be pulling out the "Mission Accomplished" sign until they actually demonstrate that they've collectively turned a corner after a LONG history of being less than.

Amen, some good things early on as well as bad, if they play like they did against the caps they will be alright but we need to see that more consistently. Not sure why folks are mad about not wanting a better process, results for the most part have been there but the process needs to be cleaned up.

Bill, off topic. Do you know the nature of Jay OBrien’s injury? He hasn’t played since the second game of the season about a month ago.
- Djapana

College hockey is even worse that pro hockey when it comes to injury updates. The only updates out of BU were (several weeks ago) "We have a couple guys who are banged up" and then "Jay won't be available this weekend (Oct. 29-30) and probably not next weekend (Nov. 5-6)."

I haven't asked Brent Flahr recently for prospect updates/ feedback but I need to do that.

Semi-related note: The reason JR Avon didn't play yesterday for Peterborough was that his slew footing major and game misconduct on Friday carried an automatic suspension with it.

Agreed. If you remember Luke Schenn and I was a Schenn supporter, he would have an occasional good game and even a monster game a few times a year. Otherwise never put it together. I need more than one good game in 8 from Ristolainen and more than one complete game from the team before I start using adjectives such as great and excellent.

Last season at the 10 game mark, the Flyers were also a structural mess and scoring at an unsustainable pace. People do forget, though, that the Flyers goaltending was fine early last season, too. It was a little later than the issues started.

While I wouldn't label the team as a structural mess this season, they haven't exactly been gelling as a team this season. Still have won with hot shooting and quality goaltending instead of humming along as a 4 line team with solid play throughout.

Yes. We had some roster turnover. Last year was almost the same team as the previous year. I would’ve expected less breakdowns as more knew the system. The next ten games will be telling.

Thanks for the info Bill. Seems like the last thing OBrien needed was another incomplete season. Hopefully he’s back soon.

On the surface this season just feels different than last season even though technically their record is worse by a game.
