I wonder how Cooper got the respect of the vets on his team? - mohel
We would have to ask somebody on the Lightning. This is what Kaner said about King after he looked him up |

He's playing top line here, isn't he? Should draw a low 1st. |

King may have not changed the "system" but he definitely made a couple of tweaks.
Is he the coach going forward? Who knows but after listening to the guy, it sure not hard to root for him. - Elbows15
For sure. He said a lot of things I like in a leader. I'll be interested in seeing him hold someone accountable (something JC wasn't too good at, it appears). It would happen soon, hopefully. Perhaps it already did with Gus's minutes yesterday. |

Ask Tyler Johnson, he played for Cooper in Syracuse the year Cooper got promoted. Looking at the coaches in the A in 11-12 include Cooper, Hynes Cassidy, Blashill, Evason, eakins, and of course Ted Dent

Cooper coached in the NAHL, USHL and AHL before landing his NHL gig. Oh yeah, he won championships at each of those levels also. So I'm guessing 10 years of coaching in the minors and 4 championships may have done it or maybe because a bunch of the guys on the Lightning played for him in the minors . Just a thought. |

Derek King named Al Arbour (from his playing days with the Isles) and Pat Quinn (with the Leafs) as two coaches who influenced him.
"I drove these coaches nuts. Now it's time for guys to drive me nuts."
Dallas Eakins is a good friend who also reached out with advice Saturday.

Derek King said he's handling forward group, Marc Crawford defensemen: "We’ve talked about the possibility of looking for somebody else to come in and help, which would be nice. But for now, we’re just old school, the two of us and we’ll just continue to pick away." #Blackhawks |

But he never played in the NHL right?
And he somehow got the respect of his AHL team, and the Lightning, right?
Wayne Gretzky and Dennis Savard played very well in the NHL, yet neither was a very successful coach in the league, right?
So being a successful player in the league is not predictive of being a successful coach, right? |

I think Savard's record is incomplete. The team significantly improved from his first year to his second. You knew as soon as Q was hired as an advisor he was going to coach, and they pulled the plug on Savard quickly

I don't know the answer to this one, but would today's players respond well to Arbour and Quinn?
I would; I like everything the guy has said so far. Not sure if today's Utes feel the same.

Absolutely he kinda reminds me of a typical blue collar worker... While Harry Potter (Colliton) was trying to recreate the wheel. I'm glad his smug a$$ is gone |

Agreed on Savvy. There are plenty of other star players who failed at coaching. Bryan Trottier, mentioned earlier, got whacked after 54 games by the Rangers. |

Very grateful that the Hawks did not wait to see if Savard would grow as a coach. There were enough warning signs early on that it wasn't going to happen, and as we know the window on the 2010 roster closed very quickly.
The Hawks needed a seasoned coach in the playoffs...end of story.

Did they respond to Q? - LAHawk
It’s no coincidence that Q consistently won the players poll for ‘coach I would most like to play for’ each year.
Shaw had a good quote about him last year on Spittin Chiclets, something to the tune of ‘you can play your game, I’ll kill your penalties, just don’t ever &$@$ me’. That kinda makes sense, and explains why Q hated guys who coughed up the puck at bad times (Leddy, Stalberg, Daley, Murphy). |

Well if you bring up Nylander you probably have to keep him up the whole year, unless you think he can pass through waivers again. I would leave Reichel in the minors the whole year. - LAHawk
He was waiver exempt before the season because of his injury last year. At what point did (does) it change to require him to clear waivers to be sent back down? |

Per capfriendly Nylander is waiver exempt all this season. He is no longer waiver exempt beginning the 22-23 season .
