"Twice, the Phantoms scored goals to make headway on the scoreboard and then got scored against on the very next shift."
-bmeltzer

Hmmm, where have I heard this before? Oh ya, last year! So far Bill has described the Phantoms as a "Fragile team" and now this statement, both were very true about the Flyers last season. What pray tell is the common denominator between last year's Flyers and this year's Phantoms?

I wasn't able to watch the game but the Flyers are holding their own right now and staying near the top of their division despite a few injuries and of course missing Kevin Hayes so far this year.

Giroux looks like a guy looking for a new hefty contract

The Flyers played a great road game last night, great start to the game, strong second period, and when the Caps turned up the heat in the 3rd, Jones came through with some big stops. All in all, one of the best wins of this young season for the Flyers, who are 6-2-2 and 8th in goals per game, 6th in goals against per game, PK about 82% and PP about 22%, exactly where they need to be!

I want my boys to be pigs. Take bacon and eggs. The chicken makes a contribution. The pig makes a commitment.

First off, for those who think I only criticize and can’t give credit where it’s due, both Risto and Sanheim played very well last night. While the team, overall, still needs to be better, last night was a step in the right direction and kudos to them.

OTOH, how long can the Phantoms allow the Lappy experiment to continue? He seems to be in way over his head as the head coach and the team seems both disorganized and wound way too tight. Personally, I’d let him go after today’s game and bring in a veteran coach to replace him.

- BiggE

I agree with you about Lappy, but I can't see him getting canned in season, but if it keeps up like this, I can see him not coming back for a 2nd season.

Risto played yet another strong game, but the difference as to why the 2nd pair looked better was because Sanheim played a strong game, both in his defensive coverage assignments and for once he actually used his body and won some battles. Makes a big difference when your defensive partner is in the right place and doing the right things. Also happy to see Risto getting more involved in the offense, though I agree with AV, the Flyers need to figure out how to get pucks to him so he can unload that shot of his.

It was their best game of the season to this point. Not counting the game against the expansion Kracken. They had a strong forecheck, tight gaps, defenseman stepping up and defending at the blueline. Played as a team rather than getting outplayed and out scoring their deficiencies. Need to see this level of play consistently.

Both Ristolainen and Sanheim played very well last night. It was good to see. However it was not yet another strong game for Ristolainen. It was his first strong game of the season. 1 for 8. Sanheim has been the better overall player this season and your inference of blaming Sanheim for how the 2nd pairing has looked previously is not accurate. Ristolainen has as much to do with that if not more than Sanheim. Ristolainen will get the puck and the opportunity to shoot if he plays aggressive like he did last night.

Did brassard really punch a caps player while he was on the bench?!
Please tell me that this is true

I missed a lot of the game because the UFC fight was on

Yeah he punched Hathaway. Sounds worse than what it was. He did get a penalty and now apparently fined.

Too bad he didn't hit Wilson instead but Hathaway is worth throwing the hands for.
I just watched the punch.. it wasn't bad at all. I wish it was worse

I haven't checked this but the Flyers have to have one of the oldest lineups in the NHL. Seven of their top ten scorers this year are all in their 30's.
- Dave21Brown

Also signed guys in brassard Thompson Yandle to one year deals, their age is really much to do about nothing.

I am blaming Sanheim because it's warranted this season Sanheim had played awful up to last night. On the other hand RR did what he has been doing all season defensively, hitting hard and winning puck battles

This comment is simply not factually true. The real truth is that both have been subpar overall this year. Ristolainen did not do what he has been doing all season long. That's fantasy. We can look at the facts and they'll clearly show that your comments here are not correct. Both played very well last night but this was the first good game that Ristolainen has played all season. Hopefully it continues.

To date Ristolainen has returned from injury, had a slow start and now is currently coming off two good games in a row. Sanheim cannot hang his hat on anything right now.

He's making me look foolish for my offseason remarks about him. Even the goal he let in last night I couldn't get mad about. Just a weird one.

i always said the san jose team in front of him was poop
i watched braun blow so many coverages and hang him out to dry

Because that fight card last night had some heavy hitters on it. It was the most exciting card I've seen in a while.
The very first fight was probably my favorite of the night, too

I'm thrilled we added some cheap veteran experience. We looked like an AHL team last year on D.
Still, I'd trade JvR for pucks if we could. Too bad Kraken didn't bite
