Oh man King said there's going to be no changes to the system for now. He'll need a couple of games to tweak it. poop

Think he can change a system in one practice?

When they play the I don't know what to do system , it'd be nice to start implementing something

that was fun yesterday....love the trolls.....all have the same material, likely the same lack of medicated keyboard warrior.......

Like the Bears with Fields, all I care about is the younger guys developing along so not as fans we get to see what we have, but the organization can start to figure out where these kids slot in, if anywhere, short and long term for the team.

Rick J....agreed....they have a massive $hit storm on their hand...and I don't think it's wrong to question if a reputable younger or seasoned coach, GM, and god willing hockey ops VP or Pres would touch these jobs right now....give all that. No idea how toxic this organization is to outsiders....

I want to see what Dach can do with 12 and 88....give 10+ games or so to see if they can get those going...we saw a glimpse of it in the Edmonton bubble....hope it pans out.

Kyle Davidson states that the #Blackhawks will stick with Derek King as the interim coach for the remainder of the year & begin a search for their next coach in the offseason.

Well, that answers that..either not thrilled with the options on the market now, or looking to preserve cash in a lost season.

Davidson on expectations the rest of season: “You find out if you’re a playoff team in April, and let’s be honest, the math is not in our favor on that.”

Says he thinks they can still learn a lot over the coming months about how the players respond to the “blank slate.”

Here's a thought: There are terrible odds that they make the playoffs this year. The reason that King was brought up to be interim instead of Crawford is that he has been able to get players to commit to a more complete game (whether they are good at it is another story). Regardless of Keith's quote, this year is going to be a development year and King is seen as the better guy for that job.

Let me know how you feel when it's Cat, one of these 5, 6, 44, and Kane on a 3 on 2 rush because Dach is defending behind his own net.

I believe this is a trial period, things always change, King has got a nice challenge in front of him. I already like his lines in practice, except for Gusto, but you know happy groundhog day

Well hopefully King was told to sh** can whatever hybrid system they were trying to run in the NHL/AHL. They either don't know how to explain it or don't have the personnel to run it.

Just implement a simple zone system for now. All these guys have played and run a zone system since pee-wee. I/we can't expect any big changes in performance in 24 hours but at least get the team to be competitive out there.

Oh and get them to protect the house.

Depending on what King thinks of Colliton's system, whatever that is, I think he'll probably do exactly as you say which is to simplify everything. Play zones everyone understands and lean on their solid special teams.

The Hawks got really lucky in that they don't go on the road until the 17th at Seattle. King will have plenty of practice days to implement some systems but I think it wise to simplify as much as possible and tweak as they go along.

Davidson's opening statement (and I'm officially old - he looks like a kid reading a book report)

https://twitter.com/BySco.../1457393584815190020?s=20

and his rationale for needing a coaching change

https://twitter.com/BySco.../1457394933590077441?s=20

I do like that he doesn't spew a bunch of meaningless platitudes and isn't afraid to point out the obvious issues.

Some historical perspective from Roumeliotis:
In his first season, Colliton implemented changes on the fly by transitioning from a zone defensive system to a man-on-man style. It took a while for the group to break out of their olds habits after playing the same way for a decade, and it showed.

The Blackhawks finished the 2018-19 season dead last in expected Goals Against per 60 minutes (2.68) and high-danger chances per 60 (13.6) at 5-on-5, according to Natural Stat Trick, just one year after finishing 26th and 28th in those respective departments under Quenneville. It was clear which area needed addressing.

So going into training camp the next season, Colliton instituted further changes. Because of their glaring issues at defending the inner slot, they tried to overload the house to limit the high-quality scoring chances. Who could blame him?

The move, however, backfired because it didn't allow the Blackhawks to counterattack on offense, which struggled mightily with only 21 goals at 5-on-5 through the first 14 games. They couldn't enter the zone cleanly, were forced to dump it in more than they would've liked to, and spent more time in their own end, which eventually led to the same defensive results.

After a month of experimenting, Colliton aborted the plan and made a systematic change on Nov. 7 against Vancouver by pushing the weak side forward up higher in the defensive zone. The result? The Blackhawks erupted for five goals in a lopsided win. They played looser, freer and ended up winning five of the next six games.

Then, this from King, should be a good sign:

@johndietzdh
Derek King on Blackhawks' players (paraphrasing):

They're tight. ... We've played (this game) since we were five or six years old and it hasn't changed. We might be making a little bit more money now, but it's just time to go back to playing some good, solid, hard hockey.

I find it interesting that there are so many "Colliton never had a chance to win" articles. I'll grant that the talent he's had to work with wasn't exactly top notch, but (especially with the stories coming out) the inability to adapt to the situation is that I think ruined him.

Assuming all this is correct this answers quite a bit. Depending on your roster you'd think an NHL coach would have convictions of his systems and not be changing them so often.

To my novice eye job 1 is to cut down on HDCA. Any Hawks fan knows they give up a ridiculous amount of high danger chances. Clean that up and you have a start. Clean up the horrid minus at 5 on 5 to a respectable level, lean on the solid special teams and the players won't feel like they're in a clown show.

This at least sounds good:
Derek King is not changing the D-zone coverage right away. Over time that is possible.

and herein lies the rub - how much of this was on the coach, how much on the players either attitudes, skills, or smarts?

I too would like to see what Dach does with Kane and Dcat for a few games, let’s see what he brings. If he continues to struggle, then I’m okay to let him go down to the A and work on his game and get some confidence back. Just an FYI, Kakko who was drafted ahead of Dach has zero points this year, and Hughes has played two games and is currently on IR. Byram is off to a good start, however he spent time in juniors after he was drafted, which is what Dach should have done.

Just got back from a Kenny Wayne Sheppard show. Opening act was a band with a chick named Ally and WOW was she great. The Ally Venable Band. Great voice and blues guitar.

That's always a nice treat to go to a venue and get blown away by the opening act, it's why i see Train every year now, opened for Hall and Oates and for me his recorded music doesnt do his voice or band justice.

Blue on black, great great song

Hopefully we can have the centers playing higher in the dzone than the dmen so if we do have a 3 on 2 rush the other way the offense can actually threaten to score

I saw Kenny Wayne Sheppard a few years ago, excellent show. Reminded me allot of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
