I think another positive is that Toews- or any player, for that matter - won't need to be drawing up/thinking up plays during last minute timeouts.

I was kind of shocked they kept Crawford based on his past....and didn't use the firings as a way to "quietly" usher him out - before that all got brought up again.

I wonder if that kept the Hawks from sliding him over to the interim seat.

Not that I personally cared.....but the vultures do.

The greatest 10 words you've written this season!

I hate The way Gustafsson plays as much as anyone but if he’s not in the line up someone who should be in the AHL is. The bigger problem at the moment is promoting guys into the NHL too soon. Leave Gus in the lineup for now and make a concerted effort to groom the younger guys. Next season if the kids aren’t ready dump Gus and find a free agent defenseman who can play defense.

Would you put Kalynuk in Rockford for the rest of the season? How about C, Jones? I'm assuming yes for the former, and no on the latter. Then you've got S. Jones, Murphy, McCabe, de Haan, Stillman, C. Jones, and Magic Gus.

I'm glad to see Coliton get fired, but I think the main issue is in the locker room. I wonder if a 3rd line center making $10M a year has created some discontent.

I am glad JC is gone also, but based on the practice lines, I am not sure this team makes the playoffs in the AHL

ADB Dach Kane
Hagel Toews Kubalik
Hardman Strome Entwistle
Who cares on the 4th

And forget about the substandard defenseman, and goaltending, anyone who thinks this team should of contested for the playoffs has a case of homerism,

Just got back from a Kenny Wayne Sheppard show. Opening act was a band with a chick named Ally and WOW was she great. The Ally Venable Band. Great voice and blues guitar.

6628

That's always a nice treat to go to a venue and get blown away by the opening act, it's why i see Train every year now, opened for Hall and Oates and for me his recorded music doesnt do his voice or band justice.

Blue on black, great great song

Hopefully we can have the centers playing higher in the dzone than the dmen so if we do have a 3 on 2 rush the other way the offense can actually threaten to score

Maybe but on the flip side this team shouldn't be out of games by the end of the 1st period. There's enough talent to compete and at least be in games.

That I agree, but this roster needs serious reconstructive surgery, not just a makeover

Unlike Stan, the new kid is a solid negotiator. Kubalik happily signs for seven years at $2.5M AAV.

Kane signs for three years at $5M AAV

Seth is traded at the deadline for two #1's.

Torts is hired, but never makes any of the vets sad.

Strome lights it up without the anchor of JC around his neck, and is traded for a #1 at the TDL.

Git 'er dun, Kyle.

Chicago still needs to change the locker room, 1) change the Captain or move him 2) trade Kane while you can get value. Times have change time to move on from these two. Should have changed Towes out when his value was high, it’s still a buisness and the Hawks need a new business plan today. Kane is a GREAT player but not a leader.
- Tee56

I do not think Toews or Kane are problems in the locker room. They could be a real asset in the locker room during the transition if the Hawks bring in veteran / experienced coach. Toews may be overpaid, but before moving him I think they will find out his ideas for his next contract in dollars and years. Same with Kane. In both cases if they want to leave I do not think the Hawks will accommodate them during this season. They would wait until the summer or during next season. If their contract expectations are reasonable I could see them being resigned.

Well, the team seemed to play better last year without Johnny. One would think they'd be better with him back. But, no.
- mohel

The Hawks were as good as their goaltending last year. Lankinen was a very good at the beginning. Subban had some strong games. Then Lankinen fell apart and the team nose dived. Last season the save % was .906 and for a large stretch of the season the save percentage was even much better than that. This season they have a .881 save percentage and the team D is no better or worse than last year.

When Caleb Jones is ready to play I would like to see him. He played pretty well before he was injured. I would move Kalynuk to Rockford for a few games at least. No use reintroducing him to this this hot mess. You could keep Gus on the roster as a 7th defender (and more or less keep him in the press box). This team is going to be a mess for a few weeks. I would not tinker too much with the D for a few weeks.

Well hopefully King was told to sh** can whatever hybrid system they were trying to run in the NHL/AHL. They either don't know how to explain it or don't have the personnel to run it.

Just implement a simple zone system for now. All these guys have played and run a zone system since pee-wee. I/we can't expect any big changes in performance in 24 hours but at least get the team to be competitive out there.

Oh and get them to protect the house.

- Rota's Rooter

I agree. You can be sure King will not say "We are going to continue playing the same system Colliton had". However it will probably be ugly while they transition to a new system. Even uglier than the first few games of this season, if that is possible. Yikes! Ugh!

This year the team added Toews, Dach, S. Jones, McCabe, Flower and Tyler Johnson. Yet, this year's team has been far worse than that team. Same bad coach for both teams. And, that team was still better than this one even after Lanky returned to average. They should've improved; they got worse.

How'd this guy fit as coach of the Hawks? https://www.sportsnet.ca/...ected-return-to-coaching/

"It might not be a real word according to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, but the phrase carries weight around this team. “Exactism” means just what you think: Sticking to a plan with extreme precision. That can translate into a hockey practice beginning exactly on time, or it can manifest in three forwards positioning themselves perfectly at pre-determined points on the ice during a forecheck. Exactisms are designed to create efficiency, establish routine and ensure there’s no grey area, so everyone knows what’s expected of them.

On this afternoon in late September, exactisms are all over the place at the rink inside Saskatoon’s Merlis Belsher Place."
