Exactly what is it that makes the system unfriendly to Kakko and Laf? And what type of system would make them more successful, because I’d love to see it.
- OLDSCHOOL#6

Some of it is taking initiative but some of it is playing in a phone booth and doing what is asked of you by the coach. These kids never played full games playing on the boards, especially not Kakko. There needs to be more creative freedom, play towards the middle of the ice. It may not seem like it but I think LAF needs the puck on his stick and time to make plays. However the only way thats going to happen is to get away from the boards and start cycling. I feel like they make things too easy and predictable on defenses. A guy like Panarin should demand space and fear from defenses but he doesnt, they pinch him all the same like if it were Hunt.

They need to get away from the physical nonsense periodically and transition to a more skilled east-west play.

Understood. But I’m not sure they don’t have that freedom you speak of especially in the offensive zone. I’m quite certain Gallant would have no problem with either one being successful irrelevant of how they accomplish it.

The offensive system under Quinn was better they just made too many passes last year. The transition game was better tho. This team has. No transition or forecheck. It’s bad

I dont think its for lack of trying but I also think its not that simple. This is why Im constantly saying how the team seems to be individuals rather than a team. If one guy thinks they have the zone, but the other this streaking down the ice thinking there isnt and it will be a dump into the zone we will never get on the same page. I think its important for the coaches to reinforce what lines play how and giving different looks to defenses. It was one thing we gave a lot of sht to Quinn about was midgame adjustments and it seems like were back at it again. Also, I think the line synergy has been kinda crappy. Goodrow with Zib and Kreider doesnt help anyone on that line. The 2 of them need a playmaker. I think the stubbornness to call up kids to play is a bit annoying.

I have what is a radical change for the entire roster with a couple of moves, the could change the entire direction of the team. Maybe.

First a little history. In 1967, the Maple Leafs were close to being solid enough to challenge for the cup. They had an all-Star defenseman named Len “Red” Kelly. With the team lacking cohesion and consistency up front, coach Punch Imlach, moved Kelly from defense to center. Kelly went on to become an all-star at the center position, and the Leafs won the Stanley cup that year.

Rangers move Adam Fox to center. Bring up Schneider and Jones. Send Miller and Laf to Hartford for development and confidence. Schneider replaces Fox with Lindgren. Jones replaces Miller, Jones plays with Trouba, Jones becomes the offensive force from the back line. Fox could very well lead the league in scoring from the center position, who could flip flop Fox and Zib, either way the roster is lengthen and stronger. Is it radical? Yes. But it would work IMHO.

Kreider, Zib, Kakko (for now)
Bread, Fox, Strome
Goodrow, Chytil, Blias
Reaves, Rooney, Hunt

Schneider, Lindgren
Trouba, Jones
Nemeth, Nils

Its absolutely crazy, but Fox is so damn talented I wouldnt be surprised one bit if it worked. He may need work on faceoffs, but his hockey IQ is so high I dont think it would take long for him to figure out the nuances.

Ill make one swap because we keep talking about it and its worth trying.

Honestly, the way he skated through the middle of the ice for the backhand goal that got taken off was very McDavidesque.

Of course, I understand that. The point is, with a player with the abilities of Fox, one move improves the entire top 6, and solidifies the bottom 6.

If you think about for 5 minutes, and not have a knee jerk reaction, you would see the merits of all the moves.

At this point I’m down for any radical change because it means they’re paying attention. It’s just a WILD concept

When Fox dangled though the defense and scored that backhand, if that jersey were blank and you saw that do you think you were watching a forward or defenseman?

I get it. He’s otherworldly. But center is CRAZY. Maybe wing. Either way I’m down because it can’t get worse

Lets remember that Chytil plays center. I think Fox can jump in and instantly be better at C than Chytil has combined in his 4 years.

Plus this move completely removes the concern at center, when Strome leaves at seasons end.

I had a few too many Bearface whiskey last night.
I’m still say give it til 20 games. I hope the rangers watch the last two games lo-lites and are embarrassed. They need their top players going so the bottom guys can slot in where they belong. As for lines a d pairing I’ll leave that to the coach
