I've so (frank)ing ready for klevin! Wow that is one guy I'm excited for and what the sens need a compete shutdown defender this kid is insane and how he plays. We need those type of defenders right now. Definitely wanna see him and Sanderson next year. I rather take him than Thompson.

Sanderson docker Klein new to be on the roster next year. (frank) j.brown holden del zotto zaitsev

Sens can get a top 5 pick and still have a successful season, goals:

1. Have 2-25 goal scorers (Batherson, Tkachuk)
2. Have 3-45 point scorers (Batherson, Norris, Tkachuk)
3. Have 4-40 point scorers (Add Stutzle to above)
4. Have Gustavsson solidify himself as a solid NHL goaltender
5. Have Thomas Chabot finish with 40 point AND a + rating
6. Have Erik Brannstrom secure job in NHL
7. Shane Pinto returns and scores 10 goals, 25 points
8.
9.

The other two I still need to think about

I think coach d.j is partially responsible for defensive breakdowns. Due to poor line changes and not reigning in some players. Some of the forwards do not hussle enough to get back into defensive zone coverage. And there is always at least 1 forward floating at or above the blueline many times during d zone play. That is how they are getting many of their points though with that big spring pass to the floater . That in turn is weakening the dzone. The blueliners themselves well its amazing to watch in a bad way.

Will Klevin be ready next year? I thought I had heard he'd need at least a year or two in Belleville

Kev, while your analysis of the moves is sound.....hindsight and all that.

It's easy to sit back after look at all. I guess you could draw the conclusion that the totality of his moves on D has been weak. Some of the drafting hasn't been great either, but some of it HAS.

Dorian has been fine. Taking Boucher over Sillinger is a huuuuuuuuuuge miss though.

It is likely the intent this season is to take for Shane Wright and the optimism of the rebuild being over simply their attempt to get butts in seats with a reopened NHL.

The D core is what it is until Sanderson, Kleven, JBD and Thompson are ready or Brannstrom gets his act together.

I question DJ Smith more than I question Dorian even if it is Dorian who gave DJ Smith the job. I don't know how Ottawa can attract good coaches with meager pay and the reputation of firing coaches like a Chicago Typewriter.

Now that is intersting.

Is this all because of the COVID measure, is there a chance the game tomorrow is cancelled?

Practice cancelled today, so I'd say it's possible. They didn't lose any D to covid protocol I dont believe, so hopefully Brannstrom is coming up because they realized we need him.

Considering the number of call-ups, I’d imagine the move is mostly precautionary. Nevertheless, if he can find his way into the lineup, it’s his chance to prove the organization that he belongs. Can’t help but pull for the guy but there won’t be much room for learning curves.

That sucks. Ideally that would be who Brannstrom would be paired with.

THN put out their top 100 21 and under, Sanderson was 9th.

Aside from being a Sens pick, he'll also be an interesting prosepct to watch because there was a real mixed reaction to how high he moved up the ranking before being taken 5th overall.

Although Drysdale is 4th, and Byfield 5th...

Brannstrom is very familiar with Zub, so why not use this as an excuse to admit that the team simply can't afford to over-load the top D pairing. Figure out which of Del Zotto and Zaitsev is the least offensive beside Chabot, and put the other with Mete for now and then Holden when he's back.

I'll be the first to admit I was relatively hard on the Sanderson pick... not because he didn't look like a solid D-man option, but just because it seemed like quite a reach at #5 in a strong draft. However, Sanderson has just skyrocketed in terms of his development, and right now I think the only reason Drysdale is ahead of him on this list is because he's already got some NHL games under his belt. But Drysdale also has just 4pts in 13GP this year, and is -10... on a team where the next-worse D is -2. Sanderson will have a learning curve when he hits the NHL which may result in lower production numbers, but his defensive game is just miles ahead of Drysdale. And that's infinitely more vital to the Senators' future success than a few more points.

A couple of recent UND highlights from Mr. Klevin...

If he has the skating and hockey IQ to match his size/strength at the NHL level, he could be a good shutdown/PK guy. If he's "big body" enough to stop Dorion from littering the blue-line with castaway #6/7D pylons, he'll be an MVP candidate.

I'm really trying to give Boucher a chance... but I just see no indication that he's ever projected as more than a #3RW, which is just not high enough potential for a #10 overall pick. Sillinger having such a hot start makes the pick look even worse, though he's likely to fall off a bit as the season progresses. It would be great if Boucher at least got some WJC experience this year, but we'll see. At best, he maybe develops into a Martin Lapointe kind of player... though Lapointe was a scoring beast in the QMJHL and AHL.

As for Wright, you really can't just bank on winning the lottery. However, the good news is that the 2022 draft class has at least 3-4 alternative C options projected as top-10 picks, including:

Matthew Savoie (CAN)

Brad Lambert (FIN)

Conor Geekie (CAN)
http://www.mynhldraft.com...yer-profiles/Conor-Geekie

Logan Cooley (USA)

Any of those would be valuable additions to the team's C roster, and help to solidify the roster going forward.
