How much do they push back? Last thing Hawks want to do is to have this go to trial. Then all these interviews that the investigator did, will be redone under sworn testimony. Do the Hawks want this lingering for another 2-3 years?
- LAHawk

It depends on the ask. If the settlement ask is for a couple of million then the Hawks write a check, continue to try and make amends in the court of public opinion and let it die. I'm not sure what the ask will be but I'm guessing there is a cutoff point somewhere, say <$10mil. The Beach camp also knows that if it goes to trial, not only will it be a couple of years down the road until any payment is realized, but that it also a real possibility that he can lose and/or receive much less.

first of all, there are two lawsuits against the Hawks related to Aldrich. And both were amended. Don't you think the Hawks tried to settle out of court prior to the report. Or maybe Beach did not want to settle, who knows. Hawks management thought they had a good case or the settlement amount was too low. I am sure the Hawks management messed this up too if there was a settlement offered or no offer. What stinks, who knows what happened 11 years ago with Aldrich and the team players harrassing him. He said that he was sad in 2019, it was determined that it was this incident back in 2010 and scrutiny by Hawk players for the next few years. Hockey definitely has issues, as well as the current society, sports, capitalism and the media.

I think the best PR move for all is for a sizable settlement; divided something like this, 25% to the lawyer (contractual obligation), 10% to Beach, 65% to sexual violence charities.

Except 30-40% goes to the lawyer SOP.

Actually, settling is totally up to the insurance company unless Chicago wants to go it alone uninsured.

I would think if the hawks handled it properly, and Beaches career stalled, he could still bring a settlement case against Aldrich for damaging his career ? Or no ?
- bhawk1s

Once the assault happened Beech became a rich man. How rich depended on how the Hawks handled it. Their handling will make him very rich...

Today in 1959, Jacques Plante donned a mask after being hit by a Andy Bathgate backhand shot. In doing so, Plante became the 1st NHL goaltender to regularly wear a mask.

I saw both Bathgate and Plante play, in person (though not in that game). The goalie mask was one of the biggest changes to the NHL that I've ever seen.

The last goalie to play without a mask was on April 7, 1974, when Andy Brown of Pittsburgh went bare faced in a 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Flames.

Well by the time Tom Wilson's contract ends in 04-05, he will have total earnings of $40 million, not including playoff shares. If I was arguing on behalf of Beach, that would be a good comparison. He was drafted 16th overall.

Current average salary for an NHL player is just north of $2.5. Average career span is about 4.5 years. I’d say $2.5 times 5 is a pretty good estimate of a starting point for negotiations.

Yes it is. Sorry to burst your bubble. Insurance company tells you when to settle or else you're on your own. You can't even fight when you're sure you're right if they want to settle.

You assume that Beach would have made the show. From what I saw in the camp I witnessed I would have bet against it. Of course a settlement is in order, but a comparison to an existing NHL player is off base says me. If I were Beach I would let the attorney handle the whole thing so no one could accuse him of being greedy.

That is why I saw: A big raw kid who was physical and could let it go p[owerfully ... at the Western Hockey league level.
He won't asked to pay for his country in various tourneys, and that was because he wasn't a youngster capable of being a stand alone plug n play on aniline type guy that played both ends.
(Can I use the smaller New Jersey prospect Dawson Mercer as an example of what Beach wasn't out of junior?)

Of course passed on a few defensemen in that draft that have had long nice careers, b/c he thought Beach was gonna be the impact power guy ... but that was what was expected down the road.

“Bad luck” doesn’t last for 9 games. This is a well-earned 0-7-2.

Players at / to the net: you need some kind of ozone presence to have players to to the net, and take advantage of them. Hawks haven’t established any king of consistent ozone presence in any of the 9 games played. Everything is off of the rush - or a desperation shot off the rush, theforward in all alone without any support because his line mates are going off for a change because they spent the whole shift getting the puck out of the dzone. Goalie sees the unsupported shot, stops it, and with no forecheck to contend with, sends the puck to a teammate and back the other way.

You can’t score enough pucks on the rush to win - you can’t win without have a consistent ozone play.

Yeah, sorry if I wasn't super clear but that was the point I was getting at. Even if by the numbers they should have maybe 6 points - they definitely deserve their record.

Its the weak wrist shot from halfway down the wall where they just lob it to the goalie and the opposing team is immediately going the other way that I have a bit of issue with now. There isn't a whole lot of effort to keep the puck - which is fine if someone else is up there to keep the goalie from dropping it to get a draw - but not the way they're doing it.

I'd prefer to see chances off the rush. Nothing like two teams going back and forth with speed but I wouldn't classify a whole lot of what they do as "off the rush". More of an exercise in futility due to lack of options or a poor game plan.

I can’t imagine who that would be!

Though I must say, that was an impressive hip check on Saturday.

Read the policy, in general, first of all it's not E&O that's typically professional liability, doctor's, lawyer's, dentists, accountants, engineers, architect's etc. This is commercial liability. The policy normally says the insurer must pay to defend you but you must settle if they wish to settle, otherwise you're on your own.

I know they are up 1 but, that passing and spacing is god awful.

Seems like 4 out 5 times they are just happy to get it out of the defensive zone with no possession.
