The plan was always just try to ice the best team this year, I think the worst thing that happened to Bergevin was the playoff run he had his first year with his new team. It was clearly a guy put in place to rebuild but suddendly everybody thought they had a great team and they just tried to ice the best team every year so he patched holes in the roof every time he could instead of focusing on the foundation.

I think early picks are better than middle 6 players in a rebuild but again like you say the value isn't horrible. The picks aside, Dvorak is useful and in theory may contribute to the Habs own pick odds not being as close to 1st as possible - that to me is the bigger issue

Yup, Bergevin took the middle ground like a fool and has us in no man's land. Agree that they should be tanking straight up instead of trying not to suck with Dvorak. Of course Bergevin and Timmins shouldn't be here when the rebuild starts, but that's a separate issue.
