I’ll be the first one to female dog about E rod playing in a role over his head. Everyone will eventually follow suit. He’s been playing well but should never be above 3rd line 2nd power play. I can’t see how a coach can continuously give Simon E rod types elevated roles while they wait until there’s 5 minutes left in the season to play Tanev with Crosby. I still think if the Pens really want to make another playoff splash it wont happen with Sullivan here. |

Pretty sure pretty much everyone here knows/thinks this. The same could be said for a lot of them production wise, so far. They are playing pretty damn good hockey despite the loses, its just we can't expect most of the current leading scorers to produce at elite clips night in and night out.
Potentially getting Sid and Carter back tomorrow night. The trickle down effect will be huge.

Anyone know if there's a practice scheduled today?...
Thinking today is the day to activate Sid off IR so he can be played tomorrow night.... |

I'm going to say something very unpopular, but I think it's time to start looking at the possibility of moving Jake. Let me explain...
1) With all the players out nobody could realistically expect the Pens maintain the way they started. We're left with all the passengers.
2) I guess I didn't think Jake was as much of a passenger as he is and there's nothing wrong with being a high quality passenger. That's how it works for the most part. You have your two or three top players and surround them with great passengers.
3) With Sid and Geno on the age decline I think the Pens need to find one more non-passenger and I think Jake is the perfect piece to package up get that. If there's no trade to be made, then you don't move him obviously.
Again, this isn't me saying Jake suck and I want him gone, far from it. I just think he's the best piece to move to get a non-passenger. To me an example of this would be Hertl. If SJ still plans on moving Hertl, I think you offer up Jake for a player like him. |

I'd like to give Jake more time before labelling him a passenger. Just like the bottom 6 guys punching in over their weight in production, I think its possible he's just not punching his yet.
He hasn't been the same since that surgery but he is young and I think he can get back to it. He certainly wasn't a passenger before the injury. He also has 4 points in 6 games without Sid or Geno. |

I would just like the Pens to have one more person who dictates play if possible.

Who do you think he would fetch or who would he be packaged with to fetch who?
That's a horribly constructing sentence, I know...but you know what I'm trying to ask hahaha |

That's the whole thing. If there isn't anyone then you don't move him, so I tried to preface that earlier. I'm not looking to move him for the sake of it or because I think he sucks. I still think he's one of the best wingers in the league.
That said, if SJ still looks to move Hertl, that's the type of player I'd like to see the Pens get. Obviously you'd want a pre-negotiated extension that works, but someone of that ilk.

If he’s shooting his career average right now he’d have 3 goals and 6 points in 6 games. Definitely gotta get rid of those kind of players. |

Your idea is to move Guentzel for a similar aged player that you will have to pay more and hope he produces as much. |

Hertl is a very different player and I made the caveat in my last reply that a pre-negotiated extension would need to be worked out. I was also really just pointing out Hertl as the type of player I'd like to see the Pens get and if it's not possible then that's that.
The age has nothing to do with it in this case. It's the type of player I'd like to see the Pens add to the team somehow. If they can do it without moving Jake? Then great, that would be ideal. Jake just seems like the best piece to make that happen if the opportunity exists.

Well Hertl isn’t available anyways. He’s going to form the Czech line of:
Vrana - Hertl - Zadina |

Nah he's a passenger for sure. Nothing wrong with that, as there aren't many players who can drive a line. I absolutely don't think the Pens should entertain a Guentzel trade because you'll never get the value back you have in Guentzel.
When you say he hasn't been the same since surgery, do you realize the season after his surgery he put up 57 pts in 56 gp? Seems like he's fine.
From 2018-19 - 2021, Guentzel is 10th in the NHL in goals at 5v5 with 56, right next to Pasta, Gallagher, Tavares, Kane, Marchand, Conner, etc.
He's also got basically the same PPG (.86 PPG) over his career as Barkov. (.88 PPG) and there's no way the Panthers would entertain trading Barkov.
Pens have Guentzel at a bargain price scoring at a top 10 winger rate.
You won't find what he offers in terms of scoring vs. value contract. Guentzel is severely underrated around the NHL. |

Agreed with all of this. My general point was IF there is a move to be made to bring in a more dynamic player who drive/dictates play, then I think you consider it.
