Because being fired is the same thing as resigning.
- BetweenTheDots

Dots you’ll no longer be posting at HB, you can either hand me your resignation or I’ll fire you. Get it now?

called saving face.....

You can't stay here any longer.....you can resign now or we are forced to fire you.

This wasn't Q just deciding out of the blue to resign......read the letter from Bettman....they ALL decided it was time for him to step aside....like bowman....he just got the courtesy of resigning vs being fired.

Wild that this happened the same year as the Bill Peters/Akim Aliu incident.
- BINGO!

About the same time. And for all that Beach endured Aliu sure went through hell himself. First with Steve Downie, then his coaches in Windsor didn’t give him a fair shake then he’s tagged a trouble maker and that’s a tag that stuck with him and possibly prevented him from having an NHL coach look at him with an unbiased eye.

and black ace 1, whoever he is......obviously was affected by Aldrich enough his confidant called the Hawks, the NHLPA, and you see the performance review where it tanked his season because of it

Just shows all of US here that we don't know a damn thing when a guy is playing bad or has a down year because there is a HIGH chance he's dealing with something none of us know or have the right to know.....

Very true! And I know a certain segment hates this way of thinking but if we treated everyone the same way we want to be treated things would be allot better for all of us.

And we should, look at the Seabrook situation....he continued playing LONG after he should have had corrective surgery/surgeries, yet the commenters ragged him mercilessly.
I mean, all of a sudden, he starts whiffing on clearing passes, when we saw him for years be one of the very best Blackhawks' passers in history??
Very few commenters ever thought to post perhaps he was injured.

Could not agree more! This idea that pro athletes must put aside their personal issues and go perform at the highest possible level on the field/rink/court, etc. is so close minded and ignores athletes' mental health.

I guarantee everyone on this board has brought personal issues to work at some point and those personal issues have negatively impacted said work.

Fair but I just can’t sit here and think 19/88/2 and others knew but Wirtz didn’t. Beach specifically names media and yet nobody is looking into them.

And I think it’s very fair to question what Eddie o, Troy Murray, Weiderman, and foley knew. They don’t ask bowman or q about what happened about Brad or standing around when all these front office people are hearing the rumors which the report verified and didn’t address ALL variations that they knew nothing? National media isn’t asking Eddie o with his connections?

Tough to believe.

- SteveRain

I assume you know that 39 people declined the request to be interviewed/questioned in the investigation.

I have said all along that Wirtz knew, he had to. And if he didn't, are we to assume that firing McD was for completely unrelated reasons, like declining ticket sales, employee morale and the on ice performance of the hockey club?

100%....I bashed my fair share of guys over the year, and I am done doing so or speculating. That's all I kept thinking as I read through that report. Criticism is fair on a game by game basis, but to think we have a clue about a decline in productivity....nah.....and that also impacts those JFresh charts as well.

I'll keep saying it....this is rock bottom....which we all knew was coming.

Yep...and 14 of 25 2009-10 Blackhawks responded....remaining 11 hid behind lawyers or ghosted the investigator(s)...and we know 1 is Duncan Keith per his own meeting with Edmonton press.....

yeah, figured there was more to that story on McDonough and Blunk, and others.....Hawks quietly tried to remove guys from their site only to be questioned about it.

I 100% there is a LOT more here.....and it's time some of the newer beat guys go ask the older guys, the tv/radio hosts, the studio hosts, the tough questions....as they have the ammunition from Beach himself....

And then Chevy just blew him off when Aliu went to him after the Thrashers moved to Winnipeg and Chevy became the GM. Brutal.

Well Paul, I'm sure you have had bosses/superiors who intimidate. And many get away with it because they supposedly have 'A' type personality traits but deliver results.

But for all of the empathy welling up on this board now for Beach, how long will it be before the 'fire Colliton crowd' is back screaming for his dismissal? I'm not a huge fan of his, but to endure a home crowd chanting that on opening night with his family on hand is truly sad. You feel for the man. But I'm probably in the minority because buying a ticket allows you to yell or throw whatever you want.

Keep in mind the definition of "rape"has changed a lot on the last 10-20 years. It's gone from "attacked and forced down in an alleyway" to the understanding on how coercion plays a role

Put yourself in Management's shoes hearing the story that a 6'3 230 pound hockey player was "raped" by a 5'6 130 pound coach, Imagine hearing that as a player?... What would your first thought be if you grew up between 1970 and 2000? By the standards of 10-20 years ago? Impossible and laughable.

Also, Jim Gary, the guy that was "reporting" this incident on Beach's behalf by some accounts was using terminology that he "tried to get in the sheets" which is a far cry from Beach's version today.

Gary recalled during his interview that he told the assembled group in
McDonough’s office what John Doe told him: that Aldrich was pressuring John
Doe for sex, that John Doe told Aldrich he was not “into that,” and that Aldrich
threatened John Doe by saying if John Doe did not comply, Aldrich could hurt
John Doe’s career.396 Gary recalled that he also expressed that John Doe was
uncomfortable around Aldrich due to the situation.397 Gary recalled the
participants seemed to be stunned.398 He recalled that the participants started
to discuss what to do next, including someone mentioning the possibility of an
investigation into the matter

Either Beach didn't tell Gary the full story, or Gary left the gory details out and made it seem like Aldrich was just hitting on Beach (At the time Black Ace 1 said that Aldrich was doing anything and that he "wasn't into that")

Lets not pretend that Hawks coaches and management had the full story during the 2010 playoff run. Beach seems to have been beating around the bush about who he told what to and when

Eh....I don't know....this team hasn't ever really had media press them hard over the glory years when there were rumors, some real some hearsay, like a media in NYC or Tor would have.....last time we saw a reporter and coach or executive go at it? Bears have a few media guys who dig in....but Hawks seem to have rookies or guys who never fully commit.

If I'm 6'3 230 I'm still not scared of a guy 5'6 130, even if he has the nicest souvenir bat of all time. And I'm certainly not letting him suck me off or dry hump me over it

Doesn't matter, McDonough should of gone to HR (as per company policy), and then an investigation to uncover the true facts. He not only failed Beach, but he failed the Wirtz Corp.

I dont know either...I don't know who said it but the guy who claimed he told the retired cop/off duty cop who works security in San Jose, was proven never to have been in San joSe....

I agree....I don't see McDonough at THAT time allowing that to go public, which according to at least 1 of those executives...that exact topic (going public) was discussed.

And.....again, the constant hiring of those in the hockey club continues to plague this sport.....Aldrich gets a job because his old man works for San jose, Wilson is friends with Uncle Dale, Uncle Dale basically walks the kid through the process...and then later admits in a performance review he's arrogant......

Remarkable.....

All McDonough had to do was tell Q that they were putting Aldrich on paid admin leave, and launching an investigation....if Aldrich then ran for the hills, you still investigate and get the story from Beach and black ace 1 and anyone/everyone you can with your outside council.......

It's really NOT that hard to understand.....

Don't people get the option to "resign" as a graceful exit before getting fired?
Q resigned also. Think Q is the type to resign?

- LAHawk

I'm of the belief that by pushing them to resign rather than be fired, the club is released from having to pay out the remainder of their contracts. Would have to see the actual contract to be sure, but it seems in the NHL, if you are fired, you're still owed the remaining money, but if you resign/retire, you are not?
