A few thoughts about the defense.

I think too much is being made of ristolainen play so far. Against Boston, Sanheim takes a bad icing with the fourth line on the ice. Boston responds accordingly with the best top line in hockey and when we get scored on, ristolainen takes the blame for not cutting off a pass that leads to a goal. From there ristolainen has been a scapegoat on a play that was Sanheim’s fault. Ristolainen isn’t perfect but I think the second pair is just a bad overall pair.

Travis Sanheim in my opinion has been a disappointment since becoming a regular in the line up. When we drafted him, he was our number defensive prospect. If Provorov doesn’t drop in our lap, Sanheim probably sees more ice time, most noticeably on the power play, which has never really happened. Sanheim’s play has dipped since the 2020 playoffs.

Ellis’ health issues which many ignored when we brought him in are now becoming a reality.

Keith Yandle is a 34 year old veteran. There is no reason why he can’t play higher within the pairs. I understand he’s been known to be weak defensively within his career but he should be capable of more.

Its not Sanheims fault. The icing may have had an indirect role on the goal. RR's misplay directly led to the Marchand scoring. Multiple variables could have erased Sanheims mistake but they didnt. Bottomline, criticism of both is warranted

I disagree. Boston took advantage of an avoidable situation and their top line did what they always do. Sanheim made an unforced icing. Thompson lost a faceoff he needs to have. Risto didn’t cut off a pass he needs to cut off but in Risto’s defense, it was his first game of the season.

Just watched 2nd period Bruins v Panthers. Man Panthers just controlled the period. Didn’t get the goals however

I wasn't concerned initially with Ellis' injury at first because I thought it was from blocking a shot. Now that there are reports about it being a groin, I'm concerned.
