Flyers shoulda had more interest in Connor Garland when Arizona was actively shopping him for months. Never mind, he's not a 200 foot player - Big_E_88
You wouldn’t rather have Nate Thompson? |

Right now, Sanheim is the one I'm most concerned about. He needs a better overall game tonight. Ristolainen has to cut back on the miscues, too. - bmeltzer
The second pairing has been very discouraging thus far, thankfully it’s early. |

Bill has this not been the norm for last few years? Yet with these concerns we have him signed for a few years now, which could be worrisome if his game does not improve. |

Flyers need to control the time of possession in order to keep the ball away from McDavid.
Simply put they need to run the puck. Dog mentality. Hopefully AV will have 94 on his baseball cap for the game tonight.

I was hoping in the off-season that Provorov would play with Ristolainen and Ellis would play with Sanheim. I think Sanheim and Ristolainen both have more to benefit if they play with better partners. There were too many issues with both Sanheim and Ristolainen‘a games entering the season, so why place them together? Heck, even trying Yandle with Ristolainen and Sanheim with Braun might be a good idea. I just think after so long, we may have to break up that second pair. |

I actually don’t mind putting Risto with Yandle on the bottom pair. I’m sure people will be furious that we gave up a ton and he’s on the third pairing but if it makes us a better team I’m good with it. Still early, so we will see. Doesn’t help that Ellis is injured already, one of your worries lol |

It may even be debatable that Yandle and Ristolainen are the third pair. I think it’s a matter of who gets their game going first. Sanheim or Ristolainen. |

Agree, the best defense can be controlling the puck and owning time of possession. If our offense can do that tonight it can bandaid not having Ellis |

Whatever the cause, it's pretty wild that out of a defense core that once included Provorov, Sanheim, Myers, Ghost, and Hagg. A group of young men that was supposed to be such a strength...
That only Provorov really remains as the one without serious valid questions to his NHL game.
With Zamula, and York knocking on the door I do wonder how much longer Travis has in Philadelphia beyond this season. I say that as a fan of his. |

My eye test tells me Sanheim has looked like a deer in headlights so far this season. The stats, advanced and practical, bear that out. IMO he needs to figure out what kind of player he wants to be, it seems like he still doesn't know. |

Ghost and hagg are what they are. Myers had a lot of hype. Interesting he has been a healthy scratch more games than played now with Nashville. Not sure if sanhiem is a good second pair or excellent third pairing guy yet. |

Thank you Bill!! I am so glad some of us are not afraid to point out that Sanheim is a real concern right now. His value comes from his offensive contribution and we need RR to be steady in his own end to help Sanheim have the confidence to, for example, join the rush. Right now that is not happening. Sanheim is starting in the d-zone around 70% of the time and that is not good for him because he is not a good defender IMO. |

Thru his WHL standout years he was piling up offensive numbers. Looked assertive with the puck on his stick. Carried the puck well and had a lot of points in his last season.
So far we have seen very very little from him offensively which was what his strengths were along with being a good skater.
Add to add to that he’s struggling in his own end and we have a player who no longer knows what his strengths are, not do the coaches maybe? |

So you think that they need Ristolainen, who in his entire career has never been steady in his own end to do that so Sanheim can join the rush more? Good luck. I have concerns about the pairing as a whole but my major concern is with Ristolainen and not Sanheim. Although I think he needs to and can play better.
You've been throwing around a lot of stats lately. I remember when you chastised me for using stats. Sanheim D zone start percentage is no where near 70%.

It is still early to say. One of the motivations for this deal was player age. As far as I'm concerned it is playing out evenly. Ellis was hurt last year and he's hurt this year. Myers struggled last year and it looks like he's struggling this year too. In order for this deal to be a winner, Ellis has to play. Sounds harsh, but having him doesn't help the team if he isn't available to play when he's needed. Or if over a season, he can only play 50-60% of the games. I get it. He's great in the games when in the line up, couldn't agree more. We'll see how it plays out as the season goes along. |
