Hart was fine. Gosh, the Oilers were constantly in the Flyers zone. Imagine trying to follow that puck. The Oilers were passing and shooting like crazy. Even with the blocked shots and the screens Hart was doing an excellent job following the puck and being in the best position. That was a serious workout for Hart and I believe that he was really good.

Agreed. I think we’re nit picking. Being under constant pressure like that is no party and he responded well. Add the fact he’s playing in his home town in front of lots of friends and fam and he did great.

can you show me some stats to backup your beliefs
- bradster

Here is one stat, the Flyers ha a 30 - 22 edge in faceoffs last night overall and a big margin in the final 5 minutes when it counted the most. Does this help?

I was on the edge of my seat for every one of these minutes. These two are such a threat every time they are on the ice. McDavid does remind me of Gretzky in this regard, i.e. you are scared every time he is on the ice.
- jd250

i was with you.

i didn't get a chance to really watch gretzky, unfortunately. mcdavid is the best player, at least from an offensive standpoint, i've ever seen.

Yes overall Hart was very good, maybe not A+ but A- .. sure! It does not mean he can't improve.

Flyers O-zone starts against Edmonton was the lowest yet, 31%, and team Corsi was only 40%, and yet they won the game. I'm not sure the Flyers can keep playing like this, but clearly its their transition game and face offs that are enabling them to stay in these games. Risto's Corsi last night was 35% but I thought he played a great game last night. It just amplifies to me that nothing beats watching the game!

while I agree they are playing better team D, blocking a good amount of shots and that is better than what they did last season. I would be worried if not but they can be better. I think the 3rd was their best period. I think Hart getting shots and making saves is good for him, he seems he is in the game. I really want Hayes back, put Nate on the bench.

side note- the penalty on TK with McD, the two of them going at it all the way up the ice, you can see when TK shouldered McD that McD was a willing participant. I think McD and the oilers will get more and more calls in their favor.

I don't think I do that. I previously posted about Risto's horrible line change decision that directly lead to a Bruins goal, and also posted that I was disappointed in his weak side slot coverage on the 3rd Bruins goal. So I think I am pretty balanced in my assessment of Risto so far. Last night IMO he played a great game and I hope he continues to do so. In the end I do want this trade to work out, because I want the Flyers to win and be successful, so I am certainly not rooting for Risto, or for that matter, any Flyer to fail!

If you have a 40% corsi, then your transition game is not good. If that is considered a great game then that is a very low bar.

Overview of the game from sportsnet

https://www.sportsnet.ca/...suffer-first-loss-season/

Interesting in the commentary they say hart was outstanding and that the flyers received A+ goaltending. I think hart was solid but that may be overstating it.

- Hextall271

I thought Hart was very good last night. Especially when it felt like we were under fire the first ten minutes of the game.

I keep wondering how guys can form the exact opposite opinion after one game ? RR hasn’t been great….but he hasn’t been as bad as some pretend. I think he’s definitely a decent middle pairing d man that plays physical, moves the puck well and may need to simplify his game in his own end…
