Funny how the defensemen don’t look so bad when the forwards are playing with some effort.

I respect your opinion and stance. Since I don’t watch pro basketball and NFL, and can ‘t sit thru 4 hour of baseball and I love hockey, I will watch, and hope the Hawks can clean this up.

It's disappointing disheartening of lack if professionalism leadership that hawks management displayed during that time. Going forward not only the hawks but other sports leagues and teams can learn from this unfortunate incident and hope going forward Kyle Beach can find some closure to this and this gives others who have been wronged on this way will have the courage to come forward. I will still be hawks fan but need to better as organization on the ice and off the ice.

Read a study not too long ago that those of us who have suffered some kind of trauma have, in some bass ackwards way, less empathy for others that have gone through the same trauma than another person does. In part, it's because our minds always compare our own to someone else's and if theirs is deemed not as bad, it's less worthy of our empathy. We survived, we fought back, we told someone, etc. etc, so why didn't they? I catch myself now having those thoughts and realize, "wow, that's pretty messed up."

I would expect that is some of what happens throughout hockey.

Sexual assault in Sports & Life is not a Canadian thing

I’m a survivor of not one but two sexual assaults which happened between the ages of 4 and 6 years of age. One lasted 2 years and the other happened at the tail end of the first.

This is going to sound rough so let me preface this.

All sexual assaults are committed by malicious and yet broken people. They too, were probably victims themselves. So punishment should be doled out accordingly along psychiatric care. A lot of it.

With that said, I have a hard time having a lot of compassion for grown men, especially athletes, who can’t handle this situation. (This obviously doesn’t pertain to people with mental challenges) I have compassion for the 2 players but there is always going to be an edge from me, because I was 4 when it happened and I had no one to turn to. (My home life sucked) Not to mention I didn’t have a clue how to handle it.

As an adult, I can pick up a phone and call 911. Which makes me wonder if the athletes are subject to some sort of clause which means you go to the organization first. I don’t know the fine details of player contracts and such. But with no action happening from the organization, I would have called the police. The whole situation is very odd to me.

In closing, many people especially, children are very susceptible to assaults like this, and if you or you know someone who is a victim, please get them help, psychiatric help. Because it’s not just the assault but you now have ptsd in play. Which went undiagnosed in me for decades. But then again no one knew about the first assault because the guy threatened to kill my family. So I repressed it.

If you’re referring to my post, it was specifically about vets full body shaving rookies. I’ve only seen It done by hockey playing Canadians, and had it done to me in college. I also played a number of other sports and it was never a thing.

It’s obvious that sexual assault, unfortunately, transcends national origin.
