Lol as a lawyer I love playing devil's advocate. I think the fact his name went on the Cup would indicate it was not being taken care of....yet no one said anything. The "I thought it was taken care of" or "I did not know" is not a very good defense.

I am not talking about everyone either. I am talking about upper management and the coaching staff.

Is someone honestly going to tell me McD could fire someone from upper management or Q or any of the major parts of the coaching staff without Rocky's approval? Don't buy it for a second. All of those guys had employment contracts.

That person would turn around and sue the Hawks for improper termination and that scandal would explode on the spot.

If Q went to Rocky and told him you think McD is going to fire Q in the middle of the playoffs? NO CHANCE

Not really. Push the issue is all relative in hindsight. 3 weeks between report and Aldrich leaving the club. I have seen harassment/abuse cases at several employers that took months and sometimes up to a year or more to resolve, in retrospect 3 weeks was quick.

Well, my understanding is that the housecleaning was for exactly that.

You didn't answer my questions. As to the bolded part, yes, from everything we have heard and learned, McD could have fired anyone he wanted without Rocky's approval, especially the Video coach.

Dach as the leader of the new breed? Hopefully not deHaan
- LAHawk

Seth Jones (much to the chagrin of many here) and Kirby Dach will be the leaders.

I never would have before, but I'd trade Toews and Kane. It was time to move on two years ago, but I never wanted to see either of them in another sweater. Now, the team will never get a fresh start with players that were here during that period, at least in the court of public opinion.

Sad days indeed.

Was he the guy who beat the crap out of Akim Alou?
- mohel

Akim Aliou was the guy Windsor Spitfires Captain Steve Downie told to get naked with four other rookies and cram together in the bus bathroom. Aliu refused and he and Downie got into a number of fights. Aliu being a rookie and younger was accused of being a trouble maker while Downie being older and the captain wasn’t disciplined. I’m sure it didn’t help Aliu’s career.

Lord help us if Murphy and Gus are our two best leaders. Give one to Jones, Johnson, or anyone who’s won any playoff series in this league.
- ObeseOprah

I don't know how vocal they are, but Dach or Kubalik would be good choices in my opinion. I'm fine with Murphy and ABD as leaders and players, they would be supplemented well with either of those two names. I'm biased, and wouldn't give it to Jones, but he could be a decent "A" candidate, not Johnson though.

I think Kubs is trading fodder,I don't see him here past the deadline.

I hope Davidson doesn't read your post here. I hope he stays for a reasonable and lengthy time. I think he's what this young team needs as he keeps trying to improve his game.

I see him as a one dimensional player (think Mike Hoffman), that is going to want more money than Hawks management will want to pay. I also see him as being one of the few tradeable pieces that will bring back a decent return, either in draft choices or a player.

It'll be interesting to see the strategy unfold. If the interim guy is directed to do nothing, so as to not tie the hands of the new person? Or is he supposed to resume the rebuild? Or go for it? If he is free to act, I think it suggests he may be the permanent GM.

I think the next real question will be how long it takes to put a qualified GM in place and/or if they just stick with Davidson. He has absolutely no hockey background as a player or coach at any level. Not that playing/coaching experience is necessary to be successful, but lets also not forget that he has spent 10 years learning at the feet of Stan.

You are right, for that reason, I think the "hockey guy" is coming sooner rather than later. I am sure Rocky and Danny were given the results of the findings weeks ago, and have already started doing their due diligence.

I'm not blaming one or the other, but seems to me that all that needed to be done when the incident came to light was for Q to converse with Bowman and tell him they need to send Aldrich home immediately and tell him they don't want him around the team any longer. At that point they just continue to pay him but notify him the matter would be dealt with after the playoffs ended. And then fire him for cause.

Actually Kubalik is a reasonably good defensive player and more importantly he made a big improvement two years ago and last season. So far this season he hasn’t played well defensively, but what forward has? I think offensively he’s a shooter rather than a playmaker or puck carrier. Personally I’d like the hawks to keep him, provided his salary requirements are commensurate with what he brings to the team and the team budget.

Doesn’t matter who it really is, Hawks top brass screwed up majorly and did not do the right thing at the time.

I know Beach was the guy who beat up Olimb, I was there and saw it. I'm talking about John Doe.
- 6628

I was there too standing 6 deep at the glass at that stupid Johnny's Ice House. Broke the much much smaller skill/speed Olimb's wrist IIRC. If there were any doubts Beach was dumb as a box of rocks they were dispelled that day.

Johnny's Ice House sucked compared to The Edge in Bensenville.

Kyle Beach!

Insanely powerful interview!

Between the garbage on the ice and the garbage in this organization makes me wanna step back from being a 40+ year fan of this team.

Absolutely brutal organization from top to bottom at the moment!

It’s embarrassing to be a hawks fan right now!

This is the first and probably last I'll post on this subject. IMO Q being oblivious to this, or anything else, at the time is one of the things that makes him as winning a coach as he is. This is the kinda guy who misses the birth of his kid cuz he has a game that day.

For better or worse I see Q as the kind of athlete/coach that the most important thing on earth on game day is the team and he has the professional success to back that up.

Stood next to him between periods outside at a Steel game after a cup yr, I was having a smoke he was smoking a cigar with a few buds (sat 2 rows below me with his wife and daughter). Congratulated him on the cup win and shook his hand. His handshake will make your eyes bulge and his hand engulfs yours all the way up to your forearm.

Dude has a helluva presence, kinda guy you meet you never forget.

Yea, if you remember just popping the much smaller Olimb wasn't enough for Beach. He had to rag doll the kid and slam him to the ice. Beach was a big dude man with some damn nimble feet and buttery soft hands. NHL skills no doubt.

I don’t care how big of a knot-head Beach was, nobody should have gone through what he did!! Do not play Beach as the bad guy, the Hawks drafted him, they have every responsibility to try to develop him as a player and take care of him. The Hawks failed miserably at the latter. He reached out for help and was ignored, totally unacceptable from the organization. I said at the time this happened, heads needed to roll if proven the Hawks were aware of what went down. Frankly, I am glad they did.
