Well said. This is my thought exactly with my original post bringing up Smith.
Absolutely willing to give Nemeth a chance though. To TJ’s point, it’s only been a few games but if he’s just here to eat minutes and mentor Nils he’s gotta protect the puck a little better. - TC88
I’m the first to admit I had no idea about Nemeth, as a player I mean. I understood the reason for the signing (Nils) but I’ve never thought jeez, that much for him? 2.5 for 3 years is def not a lot of money for a regular 3rd pair Dman. It just isn’t |

i didn't really think much of it either but now looking at our cap situation next year (which i'm positive the team had to have done) it doesn't add up unless they have some master plan |

ok before we go completely off the rails again let me try this one more time. His contract is dumb and we should have signed a cheaper, shorter term option for our 3rd pairing, but it's not the biggest concern we have. It doesn't keep me up at night. How he performs doesn't really matter unless he all of a sudden becomes Victor Hedman because it's a bad contract and he's going to at best be a solid plug, which you can get for much cheaper and less term.
In summary, it's about what the 6th defenseman on your team is worth, especially on a team that is about to be up against the cap, not necessarily about the player (Nemeth in this case).
But again, there are bigger fish to fry - picklerick
I’m not trying to start poop lol. My point is it could be whoever you name that they signed, a top 6, 3rd pair, regular shift vet Dman, gets that deal pretty much every time. They thought they needed that, you clearly didn’t. |

i thought nothing of it at the time but it seems really shortsighted now that i look at the cap situation this upcoming offseason |

Tonight on @SportsCentre
we're joined by John Doe, the former Blackhawks player at the centre of the team's sexual abuse scandal.
He has asked us to reveal his identity and you will hear him speak his truth. It's a privilege to offer a platform to someone with such courage.
Gonna be on TSN tonight but yea, the Blackhawks org is really stupid for that |

I think we eventually are trying to get to Mika-Chytil-Barron right? I don't think that you would see a placeholder signed for more than 2 years.
Also after next season, Tony D, Shatty, and G's dead cap would all fall off the books saving us another few million. I don't know how much the NHL cap will go up, but I think with the return of fans and their related HRR, that's another little bit of change as well. Really, we just have to fit everyone next season and that added money after next year should take care of Laffy and Miller hopefully and then Chytil's next contract becomes the real next interesting case. - 2sticks1puck

Oh I didn’t see that. He’s basically been forced to come out then now tho. Know what I mean? Maybe he wouldn’tve based on his own reasons, but all the power to him and I hope he names names
I imagine some players there now, or previously, are shaking in their boots if they hid anything too. I understand they’re are immune tho. I hope Towes or Kane didn’t do anything to hide it because that would tarnish there whole career I think. They aren’t immune in the public eye for sure, those days are long over for famous people
And I still want Toews on the Rangers 😞 |

Yea I know.
Kane had trouble with a rape case if I recall years ago too. That would be seriously (frank)ed up if he’s at all implicated
I find it amazing Quennville hasn’t gotten the ax yet, or Cheveldayoff
Edit: if they aren’t implicated, Rangers should pounce. 50% retained!! I’ll even cut Nemeth for him haha |

Here are some very team friendly deals for our biggest FAs this offseason. We have a projected $20m in cap space this offseason. Can't even fit these 5.
Fox 9
Strome 6
Kakko 3
Blais 2
Backup Goalie 2
Total 22
On the bright side i think that Shesty contract is going to look very good for us - picklerick
I would think Strome is gone after this year. If we are not in the race come trade deadline he should be moved. Although would not mind him taking another 2 years at the same $$$s |

Would be for it if possible. Do think if Chytil moves to wing he’s probably on that second line as RW. No proof but my gut tells me he’s on the right side of the ice far more often. Especially on his offensive zone rushes.
Always liked Toews a lot, but is he really a bottom 6 player now? |

Idk about Strome going anywhere. He seems to have become a fixture in the room. Panarins guy and all that. Feels to me like he would’ve been moved already
The savings for next year for, say Towes as an example, would most likely be Chytil being moved. I realize that could be a mistake, but that would be a 2.3 mill savings? Then do we give him another raise based on his play right now? I’m not sure we do |

He's going to make more than $4.5m on his next contract which probably prices him out of here but we're kind of in a rough spot with that. Panarin loves him, he produces almost a point per game (when the team isnt broken), and we are paper thin at C without him. They could maybe find a way to squeeze him in there with the other free agents we have to resign but we'd have to find a way to move at least one pretty immovable contract somehow (kreider, trouba, goodrow). No one is going to like this but lindgren is the only sizable enough contract we could use to clear space for anyone (not just strome) without worrying about a NTC/NMC |

Chytil man. See previous post
Chytil for Towes + half retained? So now we only have to clear about 2.5ish if it’s Toews |

True
Seriously, Chytils spot is fairly easily replaceable. Like I said we could regret it, but that’s a nice chunk of savings for someone else. I really had a tough time keeping him in the top 9 w/Toews there anyway
Blais-Toews-Kreider
Or
Kreider-Toews-Blais
is just fine imo
To save money…And I’m clearly in the minority with this…but I still don’t expect Foxy to ASK for the moon from the rangers THIS summer (rangers still have some leverage w/ him being an RFA too). Definitely do not get that greedy vibe from him. Suppose they say “hey foxy… we want player x but in order to get that guy, we need you to take 2.5 mil less than you’re worth” and in a few years will hit you up again
Players do things no one expects too, for the good of the team or whatever. See Kevin Labanc |
