What did he do to deserve that? Completely asinine. - Fenrir
That signing has been rough so far. I would have preferred Brendan Smith for another year but they tried to get cute. Hopefully he changes my mind like Goodrow is finally starting to do.
Worse case, should be trade-able if needed. |

Well, it still leaves 23 teams to trade with. And, I assume without that clause, his AAV would've been higher. |

Smith at 1 season for $800k would've been fine in that role. I don't want to talk about it |

Nils had a lot to do with that signing. But still we gotta give that pair sometime too.
The thing with Nemeth now is, he will never be a fan favorite because of one horrendous giveaway vs Calgary in an October game. His Rangers career is now defined as awful by that one play. Because our fans suuuuuuck

i'll say you're wrong because i've called out his terrible breakout passes before last game. That wasn't the first one, just the first one that directly resulted in a goal |

Yea exactly. One mistake and forget it. That’s my point tho. Give him a chance too, before he’s labeled the next Malik, Poti, Hamrlik, Holden, etc. He’s a Ranger for all of two weeks haha
The other night he was just one example of everyone collectively sucking on the back end, on the same night

it's more about him being a $2.5m over 3 years obstacle for Jones and Robertson |

He could easily slide into the 7th D role next year tho (Replacing tinordi)
And not for nothing. A Nils - Zac Jones pair is a recipe for disaster. Are they even 11 ft tall combined? Lol
Jones isn’t long for the Rangers org, he would part of a trade of some sort down the road imo |

Ideally your 7th D man isn't making $2.5m though. There's nothing to do about it now. i just wish we had gone a much cheaper route, like bringing back Smith |

The idea was to make Nils life a little easier, with a fellow Swedish partner.
You’re proving my point lol give him more than a couple weeks man. Sheesh
Smith had been relentlessly killed too. I don’t understand Tinordi over Smith tho. |

$1.7m and 2 less years would be the difference |

well, like i'm saying, there really isn't much he can do outside of wildly outperforming the contract he signed (would never happen) that would make me happy with him due to the fact that his contract is prohibitive in regards to length, term, and our LD pipeline. Someone such as (but not necessarily) Smith on a 1yr deal would not be and the difference in their level of play would be negligible at an absolute minimum. |

Tinordi and Smith have similar contracts so swapping one for the other wouldnt change the next 2 seasons. This isn't the hill i'm willing to die on in regards to this team and what it could have done differently but it seems like low hanging fruit.
EDIT: nevermind, tinordi is for 2 years which.. why? but it's $900k so it doesn't really matter much |

Yep... a bit of fun, and it worked. Lucic is not anything close to what he used to be and Flames fans are still butt-hurt on the Fox snub. Meh, we haven't had a lot of positives the last few years.. |

Nemeth is the problem of the day I get it. Tomorrow. The next day. The day after. We’ll be someone new
Again, in two weeks you’ve already decided he isn’t worth a dime and nothing can change your mind. It’s the epitome of my distain for Rangers fans. Perfect example. |

Well said. This is my thought exactly with my original post bringing up Smith.
Absolutely willing to give Nemeth a chance though. To TJ’s point, it’s only been a few games but if he’s just here to eat minutes and mentor Nils he’s gotta protect the puck a little better. |

ok before we go completely off the rails again let me try this one more time. His contract is dumb and we should have signed a cheaper, shorter term option for our 3rd pairing, but it's not the biggest concern we have. It doesn't keep me up at night. How he performs doesn't really matter unless he all of a sudden becomes Victor Hedman because it's a bad contract and he's going to at best be a solid plug, which you can get for much cheaper and less term.
In summary, it's about what the 6th defenseman on your team is worth, especially on a team that is about to be up against the cap, not necessarily about the player (Nemeth in this case).
But again, there are bigger fish to fry |
