Seriously, can we somehow communicate to EK that this site doesn't work and needs to be updated |

Our biggest contracts outside of those are:
Panarin
Mika
Trouba
Kreider
Shesty
Goodrow
Lindgren
Who are we moving to clear space? Chytil has $2.3m next year but that's not much - picklerick
Not saying it solves all our problems by any means, but I think we need to move on from Georgie and have a back up making the league minimum if we have any hopes of keeping the band together. |

Right, that is a drop in the bucket like you said. I tend to think an extra $1m is well spent on a capable backup. How many teams have backups on league mins? Too lazy to look. |

Same here!
I think it was the norm for a while, maybe that has changed.
edit: plus, are we still sure Georgie is a capable back up?? |

Yeah, but he hasn't had the same vibe of confidence and competence in some time now. I'm not a hater, just don't have the same feeling about him as I did in his 1st season. |

If it's up to me, Georgie is gone after this season. EIther we just play Kinkaid, see if Wall or Olaf can get to job, or there are cheap backups a dime a dozen every offseason to sign. There's no reason to ever pay a backup tender that kind of money unless you have a platoon situation.

backup goalie is the least of our concerns when it comes to cap space next year |

Here are some very team friendly deals for our biggest FAs this offseason. We have a projected $20m in cap space this offseason. Can't even fit these 5.
Fox 9
Strome 6
Kakko 3
Blais 2
Backup Goalie 2
Total 22
On the bright side i think that Shesty contract is going to look very good for us - picklerick
Fox is going to take the Werenski and Nurse contracts and stick them right in Drury's pooper. Maybe he takes $9M as a favor to the team, but I think that's the absolute bare-minimum of what he'll get |

I think we're looking at an "every little bit counts" sort of situation.
Drury might be seen roaming through the 100 level looking for loose change after games. |

I think there is a better chance than not that Strome walks. Especially if Barron has a good year this year. That's the cap space needed right there.

so we use the space saved from Strome to resign players and end up with Mika, Chytil, Barron, Rooney as our centers and that makes us worse for sure. I just don't feel very optimistic about that |

They have certainly made things harder on themselves with the NMC's. We have a limited number of guys who we can move on from to facilitate the contracts that are coming.
They need to flip Tinordi for whatever draft pick they can get. Move on from Nemeth (8 team no trade list) and Georgiev ($2.4M is way too much when Shesty is clearly going to carry the load) for more picks or AHLer's.
If they are replaced with the minimal contracts of prospects, we gain around $4.4M or so in cap space. |

That is the other obvious route. But, I doubt that is the way they want it to go down. |

Yea I know, it'll get interesting...that's for sure. Isles will actually have a little money to play with next year. Should be a fun offseason. |

We've seen hot stretches from Chytil before kinda fizzle out, but if it is clicking for him now, I'm not sure that's worse for us now.
Again, a lot depends on Barron, but I think he's the kind of smart two way center that would excel in this league in a third line role. If you aren't ready to give him the third line job yet and slot him on the 4th, you probably could sign another C for less money than what Strome makes/wants for a third line role.

the point is there is really no room for even that hypothetical placeholder center even with the $4.5m saved from Strome unless we move someone, which we realistically can't due to NTC/NMC. We are worse off without Strome regardless. He is a good center and has great chemistry with our best forward. No one we can replace him with internally or externally can match that production |

I'm a strome fan, but at some point having two offensive minded centers who struggle on the other end becomes somewhat redundant. I haven't been the most pro Strome, but I've acknowledged that he's produced the moment he put his jersey on. However, in a world we live in with the cap, as long as Chytil keeps developing, I'm rolling the dice with him. He's already starting to show chemistry with another player that we hope to build around for years to come.
In terms of placeholders, I'm going over the potential UFA list in capfriendly. A guy I would target is Jeff Carter. I'm not sure he costs that much to sign relative to Strome. It would be a 35+ contract, so you have to watch it, but I think he would take 2-3 million on his next deal.

even saving $2m on a strome replacement is cutting it close with what we'll have to deal with |

I think we eventually are trying to get to Mika-Chytil-Barron right? I don't think that you would see a placeholder signed for more than 2 years.
Also after next season, Tony D, Shatty, and G's dead cap would all fall off the books saving us another few million. I don't know how much the NHL cap will go up, but I think with the return of fans and their related HRR, that's another little bit of change as well. Really, we just have to fit everyone next season and that added money after next year should take care of Laffy and Miller hopefully and then Chytil's next contract becomes the real next interesting case.
