Maybe Rielly is playing poorly because he's in a contract year and wants to stay in Toronto? Maybe he's pricing himself into Toronto?

Peanuts.
- AdamFrench

Could be worse.

Joe Paterno turned a blind eye to a staff member raping children, allowing the staff member to continue raping children.

Sure, they punished the current student athletes who had nothing to do with it, but at the end of the day, they punished Joe Paterno by removing his statue.

American justice.

Even worse you gave up assets!

The fact so many Leafs fans keep whining about a player/contract we absolutely love keeps making me laugh.

the downgrade from Hyman to Ritchie is like going from a brand new Mercedes to a 2nd hand Suzuki Swift.
Fire Dubas.

- MaximusAurelius

It should be Bunting on that line as he plays a similar style as Hyman

What they need is a new coach a new goalie and to trade Rielly and Marner.
- bobbyisno1

Well at least we haven't signed Rielly long term. YET.

Thankfully we waited. Chalk one up for our GM

Not hating on Marner, but I do think he's broken... Maybe he needs some time off the ice to get back to what he used to be?
- PatC80

He was such a dynamic player. Maybe he’s not cut out for the fish bowl in Toronto. He and his family have taken on the chin quite a bit.

Anderson was a bad UFA signing...I never said it wasn't.
- AdamFrench

The need for a heavyweight (in terms of hitting and fighting) player on the team can be debated. I for one, like the idea, particularly with the makeup this team has. I think it adds more to the Leafs than another 5'10" winger that can skate really well but couldn't score if his life depended on it, would.

Yep. Hyman got vastly overpaid. They will regret that contract a lot in a couple years.

How many?
Most love the cap space it takes away.
Kind of like the way we love the cap space Marner takes away.

Still underestimating Hyman I see.
After the Edmonton Oilers have won 2 Cups over the next 5 years (after having addressed their goalie situation) Hyman will laugh about the constant undervaluing by Leafs fans.

The stories from Hyman on why he left the Leafs - in particular those on the bad locker room culture led by Matthews and Nylander - will be interesting.

- MaximusAurelius

He'll write a book on it.

Should we also laugh at Gally's $6.5 kicking in as well? Like he's getting paid now for past services?

- PatC80

He's too soft and sensitive to play up to his greedy contract in the limelight of his hometown and the biggest hockey market in the world, Toronto.

He needs to be traded. Period. Change of scenery to some where he did not grow up.

Also, all of this PP1 and PP2 conversation....I said it all before the season started, during preseason and you bums laughed it off.

You put Ritchie and Bunting net front.

Spread the talent out across PP1 and PP2

Whoever occupies the (frank)ing point needs to have a shot, yes, I suggested Muzz. It's stupid to put anyone on the point that is NOT a threat to shoot. You automatically turn a PP into a 4 on 4.

PP1

Willie RS
Matthews LS
Muzzin Point
Bunting Net Front
Kerfoot bumper

PP2

Marner RS...to dish and shoot
Spezza LS
Sandin/Rielly Point
Ritchie Net Front
Tavares Bumper

Also, bench Engvall and bring back Amadio.

I know some of you love Engvall but he can NEVER do two things in a row. Ever. The puck dies on his stick.

At least Amadio had some jam and hustles/hits.

Engvall is too worried about whiplash on the long ass neck to throw hits. He just kinda creepy like rubs across players in the corner. He's trash....not that he's responsible for the losses, but clean the (frank)ing team up already from top to bottom.

And it's usually Marner lovers.

I would take Josh Anderson on this team with that contract in a heart beat. He'd be AWESOME with Matthews and Willie. Fast, big, dirty and can score.

100%

This one might look ugly very quick. From great bargain to overpaid.

Love Gallagher but there's just no way he'll remain a 30 goal scorer for much longer.

While he's produced well during the regular season, the extra perceived cap space he and his family negotiated is the reason for the scrutiny. The flat cap and value signings since covid have lowered the market substantially, something neither Marner or Dubas could forsee.

Anderson wasn't a UFA when he signed his contract.

And the stats don't tell the whole story, Anderson had a season where he barely had any points because he played injured the whole year.

Love Anderson, every team would want a guy like him imo.

- Scabeh

In Toronto we get a player like him for more than half the price and write him off after 7 games, but questioning Marner still isn't allowed. 👍

You guys don't give Marner enough credit.

With Mihkeyev out, Marner has really stepped up to fill his role.

Marner is now missing easy goals on glorious scoring opportunities, just like Mihkeyev last year.

There's no comparing these players - logically speaking. Marner was 4th in League scoring, Anderson was tied for 199th. Josh Anderson is a physical player, comparables would be Richie and Tom Wilson, certainly not Marner

those are some big shoes to fill. It's a lot of pressure on Marner.. We can't expect him to just make up for the loss of a $1.6M player, not when he's only making 10.9M himself. It's just too much
