the downgrade from Hyman to Ritchie is like going from a brand new Mercedes to a 2nd hand Suzuki Swift.

He can for sure, but he scores off the rush. His shot isnt good enough for any team to worry about him on the PP
- Archaic

Not from the point, true. But down low he could be a threat, no? No need for a slapper or hard shot, just some close up accuracy. Which I believe he is good at.

Maybe Rielly is playing poorly because he's in a contract year and wants to stay in Toronto? Maybe he's pricing himself into Toronto?
- PatC80

Someone is going to overpay him regardless.

Now you're talking and you set up a second unit for success, because opposition's second PK unit is likely not as good as the 1st
- winsix

Who knows what will work.. I do hope Keefe does try something different.. Marner and Rielly are not going to change their style of play, so maybe take Rielly off the PP and reduce Marners time on the powerplay.

My theory has long been balance, even out the units more it makes the other team second guess which unit they're deploying their top penalty killers against.

That and net front presence. That doesn't just mean a pest out front either, it means movement to the point it collapses the penalty killers on themselves too. A bigger cluster (frank) in front doesn't just equate to confusion for the goalie it also results in more open ice up top.

Until I actually see either I won't be convinced I'm wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️

They replaced him with Bunting and Ritchie. Ritchie is trash, but Bunting could end up being a very good comparable for Hyman. I really like his game.

Pretty sure Bunting, Ritchie and Kase all come in combined cheaper than Hyman.

Being still stuck on Hyman is very dumb.

Overdrive, while primarily mindless drivel for brainless rednecks, made a good point where people are poopting all over ritchie who has been here for 7 regular season games, whereas the blame should probably fall on the players on his line who are established and on their 5th go round.

Edit: I read it over but not rewriting this sentence, good luck decoding it.

Yep. Hyman got vastly overpaid. They will regret that contract a lot in a couple years.

Keefe and Dubas are not being fired this year unless it really goes off the rails

Bunting has been a great replacement for hyman.

Hyman was never a mercedes benz....he was more like an off warranty Dodge ram pick up truck.
Will do the work, often needs repairs, cleans up nicely but so overpriced lately.

think you're too hard on Ritchie. All he has to do is get the puck to Matthews and Marner.. I wouldn't say it's Ritchie's fault that Marner is struggling.

PP1 is usually on the ice for 75% of the PP time.
PP2 is really just filler for when PP1 decides to come off the ice. If PP1 thinks they are flying, then they'll stay out longer or shorter if they are not getting things together.
But most times PP2 doesnt see a lot of PP time.

So many PP's, I feel like im in a bad trump home video.

I like the idea of balance as well....but realistically, PP2 usually doesnt see much ice time I feel.

Still underestimating Hyman I see.
After the Edmonton Oilers have won 2 Cups over the next 5 years (after having addressed their goalie situation) Hyman will laugh about the constant undervaluing by Leafs fans.

The stories from Hyman on why he left the Leafs - in particular those on the bad locker room culture led by Matthews and Nylander - will be interesting.

UH?
First they need to make it past the 1st round...before we get to them winning TWO cups.
Second, what nonsense are you making up about AM and Willie? Has this been reported anywhere?

Ritchie has sucked/"underwhelmed" for basically every season of his NHL career outside of a 20 game run in Boston on their top-PP.

I said this last week, I guess we're blaming Galchenyuk, Bogosian, Barabanov and whoever else last year.

Like going through 7 alternators in your car and blaming the alternators. Uhhh, your car has a (frank)in problem bud.

So, the first time he got to play with a non-lunch-pail line?

Maybe, but he's not a guy I expect to put up 30 goals.. I expect him to be physical and make space for the top players..
