Sandin has made mistakes. I would argue that can be expected of someone with his experience level, but he has made mistakes. He made some bad ones in the playoffs too.
Muzzin and Holl have made mistakes too, but they don't absolve Sandin of his. It's just that they're burning up Sandins rope by playing like poop, there's less room for him to make massive mistakes because of their shortcomings.
They all need to be better, the only defenceman we have that I don't want to see fired out of a cannon at this point is Brodie. They are failing as a group and they all need to step up and be better.
And none of them need to step up more than our big money players who are ultimately failing this team massively. - joel878
Sandin has played good, its that simple.
A mistake here and there is whatever, he helps this team win. |

Dermott > Sandin Lily defensively at the moment. That will change when Sandin goes by him with experience.
The end. |

Sandin has been doing well.
Holl and Muzzin have made more mistakes than him. 2 guys with a combined 15 year NHL experience. - Santo_44

Do you believe Sandin has played perfectly or more like a rookie? |

Dermott made an error that led to the one on one with Sandin. Ok fine.
But ultimately, Sandin didnt do a good enough job tying up his man or taking away the puck which led to the goal that Campbell should have stopped. That was bad - Fakepartofme
This is what I’m saying!!!!
Dermott’s mistake isn’t what caused the goal, it caused the chance for a goal, what caused the goal was primarily Sandin’s poor defensive play. Campbell should have stopped it but he shouldn’t have even seen a shot if Sandin didn’t (frank) up |

Again putting words in my mouth, no place did I say perfect. Or would not make mistakes..
Doesn't matter what I say. Taking the high road buddy. - bixll
Then why blame Dermott for Sandin’s (frank) ups? |

Sure, it will change the dynamic of the 1st unit but Rielly and Marner would still be Rielly and Marner. That won't change how they play.
Keefe has to decide if the powerplay would be better without those two guys on either unit - PatC80

I think he has been one of the Leafs better defensemen.
I can't think of an exaggerated number of mistakes he has made this season, just like any NHL d man they are going to look bad sometimes.
Hedman got walked by Bertuzzi.
Brodie has been walked.
Muzzin has been walked 10 times this year already.
Sandin has been good, playing more mature than a rookie d man.

I agree.
But also agree that overall, Sandin has played pretty well so far. Ive liked his play. |

Hard to blame the defense or the goalies to this point IMHO. Mistakes sure, but lack of meaningful offense is the main reason for being 2-4-1.
Marner is tied with Liljegren with one point, only Liljegren has only played 2 games vs 7. And Liljegren is only a -1, while Marner is -4. Pierre Engvall (the giraffe FFS) has more points than Matthews and Marner combined. And we are blaming the defense? |

I think Sandin has played well too!! All I’m saying is he still makes rookie mistakes (let’s the puck get past him, poor open ice passes, etc)
And then everyone loses their poop on me thinking I hate him. He’s essentially a damn rookie, who still makes mistakes playing on the third pairing, what’s so hard to grasp here? |

Can we talk about Engvall a bit?
Like what's the deal, is he really a frenchman in disguise as a swede?
Also have you guys seen his mom?

On a bottom pairing he’s played like a decent rookie who’s primary strength is offensive puck movement.
Defensively he’s still got some work to do. Not unusual for a guy who is pretty much a rookie. |

I just don't think he has made any more mistakes than the average 5-6 vet d man...He has played well in his role and really hasn't made many mistakes other than the normal amount that will come for any NHL D. |

Disagree, the puck gets by him a lot and he makes open ice passes that are routinely deflected or taken by the opposition fairly often |
