Unfortunate for the Panthers after such a strong start Quenville is likely getting fired.

We should be allowed to, right?
Sandin is a rookie and will make mistakes, as will Liljegren..

Hopefully one day Dermott can learn how to defend

- PatC80

There are many things to criticize the Leafs for, but failure to develop defencemen properly has got to be at the top of the list.

Guys need to be able to make mistakes without fear of being benched or worse.

At the end of the day....does having two rookie Dmen in the line up this early in the year, really make the leafs much worse?

As Keefe said, its all about lessons.....whether youve been on the team for 5 years or two......LESSONS!!!!!

And I bet...if we were to look over stats of many elite stars (crosby, Malkin, ov, Mac, AM etc) we will probably find the same thing.
It happens.

Definitely. Players go through slumps all the time.. It's expected, but if you're in a slump at least try to contribute in other ways..
Marner to me, just looks off... Not bad mouthing him or hating on him blindly, just his game seems completely off

I also think that the cap crunch forces us to do things you wouldn't normally do.

In a perfect world, only one rookie D.

I feel like the issue with Dermott is he seems to have hit his ceiling about 2 years ago, and his ceiling appears to be just a bit better than a rookie Sandin and Liljegren. We all expected a lot more progression, it never happened. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Do I trust him and either rookie on the bottom pair? Absolutely not. They need to pick a direction and bring a guy in to support that direction. Two rookies and Dermott is not a direction, he's not the guy to grow them.

I think it would be ok to have two rookies in the lineup, just not paired together.

Yes, many Leaf fans have opinions that are different than yours, and mine, and Scabeh's

That depending on a rookie d man like a vet is silly?

How (frank)ing dare I say that?

So 40millon on 4 forwards wasnt a good idea like so many thought in the beginning?

I know I expected him to progress into a potential top 4 guy. At this point, to me, at least, he's a less offensively gifted version of Jake Gardiner..

After seven games, this is the worst this franchise has ever been, and we need to blow it up and fold the franchise and kill everyone and burn the boats and lots of other stuff.

And we are two points behind the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions.

- Atomic Wedgie

IMHO, this is an overreaction.

...and I can totally get behind this overreaction!! Lets do it all!!!

Muzzin and Holl have been brutal but all I’m saying is that Sandin is only as reliable as a typical rookie on the bottom pairing and this is why I’m against playing two rookie d men at the same time.

But as always everyone chirps me

- Dozzer

I do get your logic, a team expecting to have a meaningful season cannot load up on inexperienced players which will make many mistakes. On the other hand, Leafs have an enormous amount of Cap $ tied up in their forward group. This coupled with the fact that UFA d-men are generally overpriced makes it a simple decision to develop drafted talent at some point. Sure they will make mistakes, but at the end of the day, do you want to give priority to a slug that you use sparingly as a 6-7 dman only to be traded for poop over developing a 1st rounder that can be a cheaper 3-4 guy after he learns how to walk?

Dermott doesn't make any mistakes.. It was Lorentz's, or whoever it was, fault for getting in the way of the shot attempt.

I don’t like sweets and the absurd bias in this blog makes me need alcohol

Remember in September when multiple posters were convinced Robertson and Ho-Sang were making the team and playing in the top 6?

I was a fool then for telling them it wouldn’t happen

I feel like there's glimmers at times of him still growing to be far better defensively than Gardiner ever was, but at the end of the day he just never seems capable of hitting that level.

I thought it was time to move on prior to him being extended. Mostly because they need a reliable defender who can support, transition and mature the rookies and Dermott just isn't that guy. But here we are. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Continue being a mocking bumhole and I’ll ban you for tonight’s game

Dermott shouldn’t be blamed since he wasn’t the last D

You’re nothing more than an excuse maker for Sandin, severely biased.
