I'm throwing my hat in......Im going with, Matthews quits hockey because he feels he has accomplished everything he can (he knows full well, if he were to leave for Arizona he would disappear into obscurity, never winning anything and no one will give a F about him anymore. The problem is people think this team is elite, they arent.
Theyre a good team. But prior to covid they were tied for 6-8th in the conference with 81pts. Babs got fired, then they went on a tear for about 15 games, then came back to earth. Still tied for 6th-8th.
Last year, its clear the north wasnt as good as other divisions.
This is good team and they will get this back on track.
