It’s a city council and they saw that Glendale got burned. Anyway, maybe it happens because falls in love with billionaires and big announcements - Canada Cup
You’re fully convinced they’ll leave Arizona aren’t you?
Well the owner has public attention, another city’s attention, the second best player in the league comes from there so the league’s attention…. They won’t be leaving.
Think about it. If it weren’t for the coyotes Matthews wouldn’t have existed, since it was them who created his love for the game. |

I’d take the risk on Askarov. His numbers are similar to Vasilevskiy at the same age.
Could always try to convince them to give us Myers and they can have Holl. - Steven_Seagull

Early in my fandom, I could switch allegiances to the Toronto Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. You have carnage, drama, finger pointing and then You eat your own. How does it get any better than this for a Sports Fan. |

I read this entire thread. Interesting. Some very solid insights. Emotional judgments are clearly obvious but there are also common sense assessments of the situation.
The Leafs are not as bad as they are playing. They will turn it around and be competitive soon enough...perhaps starting tonight against the Hawks.
The immediate crisis has also served as something of a distraction. I believe the Leaf roster includes elite talent on the top two lines. However the bottom 6, the D and, especially, the goaltending is not enough to enable this team to make a deep playoff run.
Would like to see more thoughts on how Leafs repair the weaknesses of the bottom six, D and goaltending. |

the Leafs problem was their top line scoring in the playoffs, not the D or bottom 6 or the goalie.
essentially everyone but the top line did their part to win the series, you had Kerfoot, Nylander and Spezza leading the leafs in playoff scoring. Campbell had 1.81 goals and .934sv%
if Mitch and Auston do something, they win

I don't hate him. why would I?
but if I build a team, I take Tkachuk before him. easily. players like Tkachuk are hard to find. Marner, as good as he is (and he's very good), is more easily replacable imo. easier to find. - fidopro
because you are a Habs fan who hates everything Leafs. That's cool. Just don't pretend your opinion is anywhere near impartial.
So a career PPG player, who is 24 and was just a first team all-star is more easily replaceable?

Pick your 5-6 favourites to win the Cup this year and lets spend the day analyising their bottom 6, D and G. Spoiler ...if you've got high priced talent you're squeezing the (frank) out of your roster elsewhere.
Not many teams have good depth beyond the top 2 lines and top 3 d'men.
Holl and Muzzin need to be better.
The Big3 need to find their hands/confidence.
Goaltending needs to stay healthy.
If that comes together then they're in the mix and still have to prove they can translate their game to the playoffs.
That's it ...sorry for the spoilers. |

I would agree with what you’re saying if he didn’t head home in every offseason
If he didn’t want to be home he wouldn’t do that. Also, if he can go to another place in his home country like NY where he gets paid the same but nobody recognizes him in public he’ll likely prefer it. - Dozzer
He is going to a big US market. |

One of the most ridiculous conversations on this blog... Nobody has a friggin clue what he will do, but pitch it and back it like they had a friggin email from Matthews planning his departure... Also, very trollish topic. |

Does it sound better if I say "My opinion is that he will not re-sign with the Leafs and e will end up in a big US Market."
I thought the fact that I posted about something in the future implied that it was my "opinion". |

No, I’m not convinced they’re leaving. I’m just saying the new arena is far from a done deal and it’s problematic that the owner wasn’t able to pay his rent on time at Glendale. He’s asking for a lot of tax breaks in a state that doesn’t always go for that poop (except occasionally for rich guys).
Maybe it all works out but there just seems to be a lot of smoke again. |

I was leaning towards 8, but it was pretty bland, so 7 is fair. |

All the Canadian Stars play in the US... They come home every summer.... And, go back to the City they play for. But Matthews is different. He wants to go home to a team that is in the worst position in the NHL... Sure.. |
