Is Chiarot still effective after they (supposedly) started cracking down on crosschecking?
- mjones242

Lol maybe that makes him even cheaper!

Sigh… ok… let me ask you this way

Would you make that deal for Rielly if you were the rangers GM?

- Dozzer

Hell no.

I love how the primary suggestion is to trade Marner, a 10.9 million dollar cap hit, who has one point in 7 games, is a winger not a center, for multiple first rounders and good prospects.

There isn’t a GM in the league that would be willing to pay that AND take on the full cap hit.

Either the leafs take next to nothing or hold onto a big chunk of his cap hit if they want to move him. Plain and simple.

- Dozzer

Not exactly true at all.
Marner could be moved, but the leafs would have to take salary back. He wont be traded for picks and prospects, and the leafs cant afford to not get back either a D or another winger.
Hes a 90pt player, the leafs won't have to hold onto a big chunk of his cap and wont have to get nothing back.
It will be a hockey deal.

Not true. He always came to play. Loved playing in Toronto. And had edge. Sure he didn't score every night but.....

And yes we all know, his suspensions IMO were more of a result from being the only guy on the team standing up for the team. Yes same happened in Colorado once but it's a result of his "history" which he wouldn't have had if the Leafs had more players with balls and less of the talent/skill that keeps getting us deep in the playoffs.

- underhill14

Cool.
He wasnt that effective with avs. He cost the leafs more than he gave.
Screw him.

Not sure why you guys talk about trading Rielly. He’s getting re-signed. It’ll be something close to what he gets now. I’m betting a 4 yr / 22 mill deal.

Marner for Tkachuk

Give Tkachuk a 8x8.5 extension

I agree he doesn’t get moved

My guess is that the leafs would have to take on an underperforming player as well where both teams are simply thinking that both players just need a new team

Either way he wouldn’t he t the big return people seem to fantasize about

- Dozzer

It would be a good return, not multiple 1st or anything. But a quality player, a prospect and a 1st type of thing....maybe even a low salary dump added.
But ya, dubas isnt trading him.

No way I'd trade Tkachuk for Marner. not even if Leafs retain 3-4M

Yeah but he’s also proving that when he’s not playing with a top end C he doesn’t produce worth a poop.

Also they’d have to move him this year or next before his NMC kicks in and that I don’t see happening.

Neither are being traded.
Even stars have down years.
I remember people on here saying ov was done cause he had a down year in goals.......he still scored 30 or so.

I honestly believe you still think of too high of a return.

Nobody will truly want to invest into a player that seems to fall apart under stressful situations. (Playoffs, the expectations this year, etc)

He'd easily get an offer from another team for 7 years and over 7M per. I know there were talks of a hometown discount but he's not leaving that much money on the table

He hasnt proven that.
He produced while playing with bozak and on the 3rd line.
He produced more with a quality C though, which he would be playing with no matter where he went.

Ooh only 2 more years before the nmc kicks in? Dubie might not even be here for that. Lol

He’ll be 8 million or more a season that’s why.

Edmonton gave Nurse over 9 and he had only one more point than Rielly last year

I can’t see Dubas only wanting to pay his buddy that. Friend’s first, team second with the Kyle.

Fine. 4 yr 24mill.

He’s staying in Toronto.
