I love how the primary suggestion is to trade Marner, a 10.9 million dollar cap hit, who has one point in 7 games, is a winger not a center, for multiple first rounders and good prospects.

There isn’t a GM in the league that would be willing to pay that AND take on the full cap hit.

Either the leafs take next to nothing or hold onto a big chunk of his cap hit if they want to move him. Plain and simple.

You do realize most nights kadri would be not doing poop.
- Fakepartofme

Not true. He always came to play. Loved playing in Toronto. And had edge. Sure he didn't score every night but.....

And yes we all know, his suspensions IMO were more of a result from being the only guy on the team standing up for the team. Yes same happened in Colorado once but it's a result of his "history" which he wouldn't have had if the Leafs had more players with balls and less of the talent/skill that keeps getting us deep in the playoffs.

Oh no don’t lose that 40-50P guy (once only) who now costs over 5 million a year

He’s also really good defensively.

I hear varying degrees of unhappiness with Marner, Ritchie, Reilly and Tavares.

Except for Ritchie, these are all pretty rich contracts.

For those folks who are calling for some type of significant trade as a means of breaking out of the current funk...is a trade even possible when you consider the dollar and term for each of those contracts.

You been talking to Dubas or Shanny?

I think there's an in between. Player + player + prospect + pick type deal. Many teams in the league would jump at Marner with money moving back, and just because it's money doesn't mean it's bad money.

It's moot though, Dubas isn't trading Marner. He didn't even consider it last summer and his value is fading since, he's not going to make a move like that at this point.

Not for the rangers he wasn’t lol

He was only plus 5 and that was due to last year, otherwise he was minus 7 before that.

Other than last year he was nothing special whatsoever

I agree he doesn’t get moved

My guess is that the leafs would have to take on an underperforming player as well where both teams are simply thinking that both players just need a new team

Either way he wouldn’t he t the big return people seem to fantasize about

There’s always a premium for Burlington talent; I don’t know, less than he’s getting, maybe $3 or something?

He’s a UFA. If Dubas won’t, then fire him immediately and have the interim GM do it.
- Steven_Seagull

I’d trade Rielly tomorrow if I could.

Team needs a shakeup, and honestly Rielly does nothing for me. Put some fear into some of these guys.

Sigh… ok… let me ask you this way

Would you make that deal for Rielly if you were the rangers GM?

Rielly (50% retained) for a 1st + conditional 2nd + good prospect

I wonder if the Rangers could use a top-4 LD.

Schneider + 1st + conditional 2nd

You're a funny guy.

Chiarot, a more defensive dman than Rieilly, is also a pending UFA. 3.5M on the cap.
maybe a good trade for both teams?

Maybe him plus a second which would get bumped up to a first if Rielly signed an extension with them. Wait til trade deadline and maybe you can get the first right up front if the rangers thought they were competitors. I don’t see that happening tho.

I’d say that’s about what he’s worth.

Is Chiarot still effective after they (supposedly) started cracking down on crosschecking?
