It seemed like a trade just to trade someone.
Malgin was a failure

Exactly, which makes me think how the hell did Sleepy Shanny not veto that? No Kyle, that trade makes no sense, do better. Wheres the oversight?

I think Malgin was seen as someone who could contribute immediately as a 13th or 14th forward, and it was unknown whether or not Marchment would ever make the show.

I think it was something like that. He was someone they could move in and out of the lineup without worrying about

Except we had that in Marchment and malgin was awful.
Anywho, one is no longer in the league, the is in the league and was even on a protected list.

Anderson wasn't a UFA when he signed his contract.

And the stats don't tell the whole story, Anderson had a season where he barely had any points because he played injured the whole year.

Love Anderson, every team would want a guy like him imo.

Josh Anderson is a discount Erik Cole.

Okay, like, a steep discount Erik Cole.

What about the same amount, but in 4.5X bigger font?

I would be willing to accept that.

Rielly (50% retained) for a 1st + conditional 2nd + good prospect

I wonder if the Rangers could use a top-4 LD.

Schneider + 1st + conditional 2nd

Jesus, I started by saying Mitch is playing like poop - a topic that is pretty well covered in here. I’ve also been clear that the entire team except for a few has been really bad. I’m not sure why I’m not allowed to include Ritchie in the list of first line guys playing like poop.

If you disagree, cool. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how he’s been playing well. But spare me the poop about the topic being absurd because he’s being paid a lot for a cap strapped team to fill a critical role.

He’s a UFA. If Dubas won’t, then fire him immediately and have the interim GM do it.

Yeah, I think Dubas figured that Marchment would never crack the lineup and that Malgin might be a guy they could throw in the lineup in a pinch who had a lot more NHL experience.

But for a team desperately lacking sandpaper it just made zero (frank)ing sense. Marchment on the 4th line made a whole lot more sense to me than Malgin playing 3F or 4F.

A better question would be if you were the rangers GM would you take that deal?

a first round pick who’s only 20, and another first rounder for Rielly and a second if he signs on?

If Dubas told Drury that he’d just get laughed at.

I hear varying degrees of unhappiness with Marner, Ritchie, Reilly and Tavares.

Except for Ritchie, these are all pretty rich contracts.

For those folks who are calling for some type of significant trade as a means of breaking out of the current funk...is a trade even possible when you consider the dollar and term for each of those contracts.

Drury isn’t a good GM. Already made a really bad trade involving Buch.

Logistically a trade is absolutely possible. Strategically speaking, there's no way in hell Dubas trades any of his core this season.

He may not get a chance to trade them in the off-season.

I love how the primary suggestion is to trade Marner, a 10.9 million dollar cap hit, who has one point in 7 games, is a winger not a center, for multiple first rounders and good prospects.

There isn’t a GM in the league that would be willing to pay that AND take on the full cap hit.

Either the leafs take next to nothing or hold onto a big chunk of his cap hit if they want to move him. Plain and simple.
