No one would have given a poop about a video coach being released, but you know they would have given a poop why he was released. It doesn’t excuse sweeping it under the carpet but that’s why it was I’d guess.
- paulr

Very unlikely that anyone would have gone to the press, especially not the perp. The players might have asked, been given some "family crisis" rationale, and then shrugged it off. Doubt anyone in the outside media team could have named the video coach back then.

Again. Hindsight tells us something sinister was swept under the carpet. At the time? Even after reading the complete report, its not really clear who knew anything factual.

Yeah, the report makes it seem like a lot of one-off, hallway conversations and the one pivotal short meeting where people talked around the accusation more than talked about the specifics.

problem was there were no real specifics being mentioned in most cases. Seems the skating coach may have been the only one in the org who had any knowledge of what occurred and he failed miserably in conveying the information. The mental skills coach is another who looks bad.

Wasn't aware he was being groomed. Could be. Any corporation has a sucession plan on file. It would be the same if a replacement is needed if Bowman died of a heart attack or in an auto accident.
- boilermaker100

They also suggested that if the Orginization wanted to quickly Re establish credibility both within the fan base and throughout the league they might consider a guy like Eddie O for GM.

Definitely not ideal in my book, but it seems like the kind of face saving move the Hawks might try,

Interesting take on MacIsaac from a Lazerus/Powers Athletic article

MacIsaac was lesser known to fans compared with his front-facing colleague Bowman, but he amassed significant power over his 21 seasons with the Blackhawks. MacIsaac’s role was never fully defined. One team source recently said, “I’m not sure what he does.” MacIsaac liked to think of himself as someone who made the whole Blackhawks operation run smoothly. He served as the bridge between the business side of the organization and the hockey side, McDonough’s right hand, his eyes and his ears in the hockey ops department. When McDonough dabbled in hockey operations, he did it through MacIsaac.

MacIsaac’s influence was clear during a hockey-ops meeting at the NHL draft in 2018. Bowman had been convinced by a few others that the Blackhawks should begin moving assets and start rebuilding. Some of the writing was already on the wall, so it was best to get ahead of it. Bowman laid out a rough plan to the hockey-ops staff and wanted to see what everyone thought.

MacIsaac banged his fist on the table and told Bowman no. A source said MacIssac said: “We’ll all get fired before the plan is complete. We can’t do this.”

"Stan backed down immediately,” another team source said. “So he came up with another garbage plan to ‘make another run’ with what they had. Norm (Maciver) said to just take it to John, but Stan wouldn’t do it.”

What about him as the ""President" - and he searches for the next GM, etc..

The elder Bowman still listed on the website as Senior Advisor. I wonder if he stays behind without Junior, or if he bows out in the coming days?

FFS, he lauds Carpenter every chance he gets. That automatically disqualifies him in my world.

Or, split the hockey ops from GM again and have him do the former - does he have the skills needed for that job? (I have no idea what you need in a hockey ops guy/gal)

ETA: Elbows may have just answered my question - hahahah

Ok by me.

On JC, I think today's news took the starch out of that issue as well. Unless the new GM is JC's mother, he's toast. Not even his father would keep him at this point.

- mohel

A new GM always brings in "their guy" as coach. But often it is done during the off season. The new GM say's they're "evaluating things right now" ha ha. How fast Danny and a new GM move will tell whether they think this season is salvageable?

A brief scan of the interwebs had 4 to 6 weeks generally, with a couple sites going 3 months. A hockey player probably misses 3 weeks, eh?

According to Powers and Lazerus, there is definitely a chance Davidson becomes the permanent GM. Seems he was possibly being groomed for the position.
- Ogilthorpe2

The Hawks don't do 'grooming' well, its more like not at all. They don't groom coaches to come up to the NHL thru the minor professional leagues; they don't groom drafted or free agent players in the minor leagues that ultimately contribute for a few years on the big league roster.

And for the front office, what the Hawks do is create titles and hire names they think will meet with approval in the media. Who knows what many of these people actually do (or were doing) in their jobs?

The Forbes book value for the franchise is distinctly separate from whether the organization is actually well run, which it isn't.

"And I’m confused by his termination. I’m reading that no one - other than HR - knew that Aldrich was being let go. Who did he report to? I would guess it would go up through the coaching hierarchy to Quenneville - but he indicated that he knew nothing about it, as did Bowman and McDonough.”.

- StLBravesFan

According to the released report, Quenneville was in the room and definitely knew about the situation, at the very least from a high level, so if he publicly stated he knew nothing, then he's gonna get in some trouble for that untruth.

Of bigger note from the report is the following statement,
“Bowman recalled that, after learning of the incident, Quenneville shook his head and said that it was hard for the team to get to where they were, and they could not deal with this issue now.”
I.e. Playing in the Stanley Cup Finals > than even starting to deal with this serious matter.

If it's really true that Quenneville made this statement, one would think he will be released/fired from his head coaching job and probably will never be allowed to coach in the NHL again... and who knows how that could impact his 'Hall of Fame' induction chances...

Or could this be Bowman just throwing him under the bus as a mean parting shot at Quenneville (as there were always reports those two never saw eye-2-eye)?

pretty gross day in the history of the hawks and hopefully the defendant finds some solace knowing heads finally rolled. I'm not posting it here but with all facts coming out, it's an even sadder story and fall from grace for the franchise for who this impacted

I feel like this is a new anecdote/revelation (if not, apologies), but it does explain the hesitancy to go rebuild when it was time. Wonder how much more of this backroom stuff is going to come flooding out now? (from The Athletic)

New blog! Thoughts on the Blackhawks investigation results and fallout particularly regarding the GM position, Jeremy Colliton's status as head coach, and impact on the team's on-ice performance.

Plus, updates on the COVID protocol list, Caleb Jones, Wyatt Kalynuk, and tonight's game versus the Maple Leafs.

The coach has to also have to players to run whatever system

They need a coach that can mold the teams talent into the best system, IMO

Like when Nagy was going to run the KC offense....he didnt bring Kelce, Hill and co. with him.

Fine by me. Davidson may actually fit that mold. Who knows. I didn't know he existed until today. lol
- Elbows15

I knew Davidson was there but I thought automatically he was Jack Davison's son. Jack was a scout for decades. But I just checked and that's not the case. Different spelling, no relation. So I think (hope) he's a objective thinking guy moving forward.

It's so hard to get over that. I would like to get McD alone in a room and find out why.

I'm certain he cared about his own legacy and how this would look if it ever got out under "his watch". Where if he had 1 hair of ethics on his body - doing the right thing would have scored many points, maybe even changed some minds.

He is a snake and slithered away as quickly as he slithered into the hockey world.
