But he did it in the context of having a veteran championship core that was ready to win and that he could take to the next step(s) - he wouldn’t have had that with today’s Blackhawks.
I did not mean to say or imply that “Q wouldn’t play young skaters” - only that he has not proven able to take a “new” team and develop it as a team into championship status. They are two different skills - Phil Jackson did great with a team that started him out with Jordan, Pippen, Grant….he also did great with LA and Kobe, O’Neil, Salley… - StLBravesFan
Thanks, I understand your perspective. I think you know who I'd prefer behind the Blackhawk bench, given the choice. |

How about:
(1) Stan goes to management and says “We don’t have a #1 Dman and Boqvist ain’t gonna be it - if we try again, it will be 5 years before he’s ready to take over. I know a #1 Dman we can get.” Management says “OK - might as well try to get another vet or two so we can make a run at the playoffs and try to stabilize our revenue streams in the midst of pandemic caused problems ahead.”
(2). Management goes to Stan and says “We need to start making playoff runs, because revenues are going to be questionable for a few years, and we need to maximize the asses in seats as much as possible quickly.”
(3). Both kinda say to each other, “Let’s try to do both - keep developing the ‘kids’ while trying to make the tournament and maximize whatever revenues are left.” - StLBravesFan
Yep, any of these is possible, and to me, each puts Stan in a different light. |

If this is purely a locker room problem, is the front office working on trading anybody to create a better locker room? For all we know, the players could have been told that Colliton isn't going anywhere, so they need to figure it out on their own.

The locker room problem has been going on for years. One of the reasons Stan reacquired Shaw was to change the dynamic. Remember last year when Shaw was playing, that was when the team was overperforming. He got hurt, and thing started going and went downhill. |

Yet Shaw, in a recent interview, pointed the to coaching as the problem. Not that I’d expect an ex player to place the blame on his ex teammates. |

Maybe they could excuse Shawzey from his analyst duties in between the first and second so he could go down to the locker room, give someone a hotfoot, zing Johnny and Kaner and then the boys would be ready to roll in the 2nd. |

Y'all remember LBR? (miss her around here)
I knew she'd gotten a gig doing statistical analysis for another outlet, but she's also doing their podcasts:

Yep, have listened to her on one before and enjoyed it. Still waiting for Edzo to get his shot. |

Could be the coach, but I remember when Stan reacquired Shaw, he said the locker room was too quiet. There was no Shaw/Versteeg to not only chirp/needle opponents, but do the same with their teammates. Sometimes the chirp is criticism that the player can take better because Shaw chirped everyone. Supposedly Captain Serious lightened up, but he still is not a rah rah guy.
I am not saying anyone on the Hawks is a cancer, but I don't know if they have anyone to light a fire not necessarily one player, but pull a whole team with them.

I have listened to a couple of the podcasts. She is fine, the others I find unlistenable as well as unreadable. But that is the beauty of the blogosphere. anyone can have a microphone and put themselves out as experts at something

This is another example where knowledge of all the goings on within the front office makes all the difference. If Stan was told to hire a cheap developmental coach for the rebuild and then ownership halted the rebuild, Stan looks different than if they told him not to count on a long term rebuild and to replace Q with a long term answer. To complicate matters, McD was the one communicating with Stan at that time. - mohel
The only thing we know is we don't know anything... For all we know, Stan told his bosses he will try to speed up the rebuild but this team is not there yet?
As has been said, better goal tending would go a long way and that was obviously part of Stan's plan. Difficult to fault him for gambling on MAF. This team does not have the offense to overcome a bad goalie. The Forwards are a patchwork of young and reclamation projects and when Toews and Kane are not operating at 100% of 2013 they're in BIG trouble. |

Think you're taking this Q - speak thing a little too far LA.
On your other post, I remember the same comment about Shaw. Looking at the current lineup there isn't anyone that strikes me as that guy, that can keep things light in the room. |

But wrath from the coach done in a way that provides teachable moments is what may be lacking in the locker room and on the bench. This is where Colliton is like a teacher who has been too lax and now needs to be strict but lost control of the class by not doing the opposite.
Once you lost the class it is almost impossible to change the behavior because the tone has already been set from day 1. Time to move on from Colliton and look in a new direction because the players have more than likely tuned him out. |

I agree, reason why I said he should be replaced, not because of systems/structures/etc. but when you lose the ability to connect with your audience, it doesn't matter how good a coach you are or aren't.

The Edzo and Dots female doging Hour. A show of whining, complaining and ranting combined with little actual hockey knowledge broadcast from a ledge somewhere in your neighborhood. |

I talked to one of Breadman’s students and he lost his class minutes into the first semester. Although Mo and D say Breadman never had any class. |

Another little tidbit from Kaplan. We've seen this happening, but apparently, the team has switched away from skilled transition to an offensive philosophy of dump and chase.
So, at least on one half the ice, the "system" has changed. We will see if it works with the personnel they have. |

The Blackhawks will brief reporters on the findings of the Jenner & Block investigation at 1 p.m. today.
Should we start a pool on who will walk the gauntlet for it? My money is on McD. |
