I wouldn't be so sure about Bowman being compensated. Not that I personally care too much about it. Danny looked pretty embarrassed and pissed in his statement.
- Elbows15
Danny being pissed and Bowman being compensated to go away aren't mutually exclusive. I'm sure Danny is pissed about a lot of Stan's recent hockey decisions too...

Raiders aren't paying Gruden the remaining what ..6yrs 60mil? (don't think broke Mark Davis isnt happy about that)

And Stan resigned right- not fired? I'm certain there's a moral close in there.

Was MacIssac the GM in Norfolk....thatvalso hired Bill Peters?

Not so fast...love him, but Hossa sold us on Dano and Panik

All Panik cost the Hawks was Morin. No shame in that at all.

I can’t imagine Stan just resigned without getting a big severance package from Rocky. McD is the real culprit and will probably wind up getting a “get out of jail free pass. That will really tick me off!

Hey, if we can retroactively install a duty to follow up on your boss, we can call it "cause" and terminate the contract, too. While we're at it, let's make sure we ruin the guy's career - we got our skin on the wall.
- mohel

It's obvious that nobody has read the report considering that John Doe never told anyone about the assault during the 2010 playoffs. He only said there were unwanted sexual advances and that his career was being threatened. Sure, that is serious and should be dealt with, but it's nowhere near the same level.

Has anyone had a contract before? There's always language in there for companies to get out of it, always.
- BetweenTheDots

But if the company wants to get out - quickly - and just get it behind them, they don’t want more litigation - they will have a financial settlement and just end it.

I’m guessing there was - or will be - some kind of negotiated settlement with Bowman - he signed a new contract last year, I think.

Stan will come out of this with a decent amount of cash.

- StLBravesFan

Might strictly be a coincidence but Stanbo officially 'stepping aside' today may well have actually been in the offing for considerable length of time or at least that he envisioned the heat getting very hot in the kitchen on this matter sooner than later.

He listed his house in Lincoln Park in April and sold it 16 days later. The story appeared in the Tribune on October 8. And no mention of him buying something else in Chicago.

Hopefully it means Jones is booted, too. He has no business on the team. There are at least 7 US d-men better than him.
- Elbows15

And is Kane healthy enough to deserve a spot on the team? Of course, him at 50-75%% is still a darn good hockey player

Yeah, I guess it wasn't Hossa or Panik himself who claimed he was the "next Hossa"

Exactly, stepping aside from being VP and GM of the Hawks. Did not quit (resign), was not fired, a way that they pay out Stan’s contract, and the Hawks get the settlement back with their ELPI insurance, probably covered thru Wirtz Insurance Agency.

The clause that is in most sports contracts that is an out is “Actions detrimental to the team or organization”

Always easy to do the "right thing" (which is already in excess of what is required) when it isn't your enormous paycheck on the line.
- mohel

But that's the whole point and why he was fired...he didn't do what a person is supposed to do in his position...and let's all admit the one truth...they didn't want to do anything because winning was most important.

I was talking to my 16 year old this afternoon who played hockey but suffered several knee injuries and had to hang up his skates...he was on an elite team for two years...I said what if a player accused so and so coach of sexual abuse a week before the championship and the organization allowed him to coach the team and wait until after the championship game to conduct an investigation...how would you feel? Thankfully he understood the point.

I've been wondering if his decision to hold off on surgery (if that's what will "fix" his issue, though I seem to recall seeing somewhere it was) wasn't more of an attempt to make it to his last Olympics, possibly as Captain, than it was to play the full season with the Hawks.

Here is another thought...maybe we are looking at the offseason the wrong way.

Maybe it was Bowman who convinced Wirtz to spend the money on FA's because he thought if the team was playing great it might save his job knowing what had happened. I'm not into conspiracies but it kinda makes sense...

If that’s true, he should be stripped of his A with the Hawks.

That would be acting the exact opposite of how you want a “Captain” to act.

Pass the buck Stan. McCub is certainly culpable here, but Bowman is a giant weasel for really not accepting his role in failure to report this to the PROPER authorities. I guess ole' Stanley was just following orders of his boss. (frank) off Bowman.

I would have so much more respect for this piassant if he would just OWN it. I SCREWED UP by not reporting it. When McDoffus failed to report it I SHOULD HAVE done so. Do THAT and you salvage whatever integrity you had.

I actually believe he thought what he did was proper, just as his statement says. From the report, he didn’t pull what Q did with the I don’t recall exactly what I saw, heard or said.

After reading, definitely changes it from a potential police matter to an internal HR matter at that time.

It's also clear that the three guys who tried to put themselves in the middle of the story as heroes and who have been highlighted repeatedly in Westhead's ongoing reporting might be glory seekers (wannabe white knights) rather than actually directly involved.

I hate that because the claims they made like "everybody knew" are the ongoing (and probably forever) talking points when the Hawks are mentioned. Kind of like "rapist" being the first reply on almost every Kane tweet to this day. The pitchfork and torch crowd was temporarily deflated for about 10 min after the news of Stan leaving broke. Then they turned on the players who were on that team, demanding they be removed from the league.

Which I’m sure would lead to litigation - which is the last thing the Wirtz’ want - which is why I would guess they made a settlement.
