Sure this year.

Three years from now when
Dahlin
Mitts
Cozens
Joker
Samuelson
Quinn
Peterka
Thompson

ETC

Are needing or on new contracts the Sabres are going to need that 9 mil.

- ImThatGuy

That's why KA and Ventura get paid the big bucks. Not for us to worry about.

Thats actually very old for his style.

He relies on speed.

speed goes first. Then what.

he's Kyle Okposo but on a worse contract, and worse defensively.

- ImThatGuy

He doesn't though, he is a shifty skater but I never thought of him as a speedy guy.

He relies on his skating and edge work.

His style of play should be fine for 29, but he isn't much without an elite center to feed him tap ins

Speed doesn't deteriorate at 30 years old anymore.

He doesn't play a physical game like Okposo and doesn't have the head injuries. And doesn't put on the miles since we can't make it to the playoffs.

That's an innovative way to keep miles off players: suck

Skinners contract is buyout proof until at least 25-26.

his base salary in 23-24 and 24-25 is 10 mil.

He didn't have an elite center in Carolina so he had something else while there to help him score every other year or so. He is a garage goal guy so it's unfortunate that he has never been a PP guy get the goals in close there.

It very much does.

There are several analytics/charts say what you will that show players start their decline at age 29, and then 30+ its a rapid decline.

Only the elite few continue to produce after 30+ season.

I should clarify, he will never be a 40 goal scorer again

When he was in Carolina he was on their second or third line at times and he would score against other teams lower lines

James Neal doesn't have Skinner's wheels. I'm still selling this take for now
- Hank Balling

he tried to come up with another name off of the top of his head but couldn't do it...if skinner continues his 7% or less shooting percentage, it'll be tough to hit 20 goals this year and/or the next couple seasons...his career average is 3.19 shots/game and his shooting percentage is 10.4% but both areas have dropped precipitously...since he signed that contract his shots/game has dropped to 2.64, which at a 10.4% clip equals just over 22 goals/82 games...2.64 s/gm at a 7% shooting percentage is just over 15 goals so i can see where pham is coming from

The boat has to float first. We're not worried about that just yet. They're still plugging holes.

Oh, ok. When all these factors are put in place it is even more amazing that JB gave him that contract. The really high shooting percentage in his 40 goal year that he would most likely never hit again, that he scored inconsistency while on Carlina's 2nd and 3rd lines. That does not equate to a 9 million dollar 8 year contract. Oh well,it's over and they are stuck with him.

i don't think it's necessarily speed with him...it's more of using quick to maneuverability move in and out of traffic to get to a soft spot...players like james neal age more quickly because they play a more heavy game...skinner's light on his skates, imo

I just dont think he can pick corners like he once did in a two season sample size. I feel Tage and him have been in the right spot a lot and miss by mile everytime.

I think it is desire with Skinner. I think his skating and quickness is still fine right now but you don't see him battling behind the net as much, you don't see him going to the dirty spots in the front of the net as much. He does it sporadically. Maybe if he played for a winner the inner desire would come back but right now he doesn't have a ton to play for. He has his money, the Sabres are stuck in rebuild and so I think it is a mental, motivational thing.

I don't think Skinner has ever relied on speed. He has been quick but he was never fast. He is at his best when he is cleaning up leftovers around the net.

Maybe someone should interview Geoff Sanderson and find out how and why he lost his goal-scoring acumen and maybe we will get a glimpse as to why Skinner has as well. This is sort of a joke but I think it would be an interesting interview.

He was someone who relied heavily on his speed
