we all knew what this is. keep bringing the heat and I'd say that's good enough for the year. At least we're not lifeless deadbeats like Chicago.

Big time yikes.

What if Don Granato is too good for them to be bad?

Can they actually contend if they never get an elite player?

Nice Read Hank!! I was gonna post this on the other blog but since you posted this.

solid piece by pham...but interesting note:

"They lost to Boston 4-1 because the Bruins have three of the elite offensive players...They just couldn’t handle Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand..."

If Eichel is out all season, what team would trade him for him and send any players of consequence from their NHL roster?
- kingcong39

a team like chicago who has two aging hall of famers, some nice prospects plus the possibility of a top pick in 2022, but are missing a bridge superstar?

i dont know why but i am leaning towrds trying to trade Eichel to Calgary. I think you can get Johnny Hockey (flip or resign) Sean M. Zary and #1 pick from the flames

I said it before, I would take that package in a heartbeat.

Chicago could maybe make the salary work by sending back Dylan Strome (oh the irony), Shaw, and Brett Connolly, but the big question is what are they sending back that the Sabres would actually want?

Chicago with Dach, Strome a 1st and the other pieces might work. From what I understand Dach isn't really playing up to his draft status currently and if they keep losing this will be a lost year where they won't need Dach or Eichel or anyone else especially if they want to tank for a pick this year and give us the 2023 1st.

it might come to that...gotta have some $$$ coming back so gimme connor murphy...in addition they have a conditional 1st rounder they traded to cbus in the jones trade...a top-two pick this year means cbus gets their 2023 pick so it would be interesting to see how a trade would be pan out

Agreed. But like, I think it was, you who said, there are always those teams that want to strike first. To keep him out of the hands of their conference rivals (hopefully it's the Western Conference).

Maybe try to make the Chicago deal bigger and better by offering one of our three goalies along with Eichel. I'm not sure who they have in their goalie pipeline.

the first-rounder is a real sticking point...if they're top-two this year it's highly doubtful they'd trade it and if that's the case they'll have no 2023 1st as it goes to c-bus...however, if they're three or lower, c-bus gets the pick and the 2023 1st rounder would be in play...

not sure how stan bowman would approach something like that...however, he seems to be a little discombobulated so buffalo could get a reasonable deal done

That's where the front office needs to be competent. The next best thing to acquiring a #1 OA is to draft well in all rounds, and keep picking up top 3 RD picks. Collect the assets, wait until there's log jams and use some players to pick up high end talents when the team has shown they're ready to advance in the hierarchy of the NHL. it wouldn't hurt to add Shane Wright but you don't need to do it to win. Sup Toronto.

Yeah that is going to be a problem unless they give up Dach and one of their very top prospects if the Sabres don't get a 1st.
