I don't know if this is true. AV's system is to trap in the neutral zone to generate offense off of turnovers with a shorter ice, but I don't think this excludes winning the puck possession battle also. Found this description of AV's system online that i think is accurate:

You watch the games I assume. Do you see puck possession as a strong point?

The Flyers don't play a trap. Vigneault's system like pretty much every team is based on a 2-1 forecheck. Teams will play some sort of neutral zone forecheck situationally but no team these days plays a trap.

See my updates to this post, perhaps "trap" was the wrong word and I should have said "overloading"

Any idea who could replace NAK in the lineup? Or just hope he gets better?
- therabbi

Whenever Hayes comes back I'd try a 4th line of Laughton/Thompson/your pick of Brown or Mac.

That great. Flyers fans never disappoint. So guys who were pretty much NHL ready he gets credit for. Amazing.

He had nothing to do with Hart so stop that nonsense. Glad your happy with Lappy.

Saying he has no coaching experience is a stupid statement regardless of the results. He does have experience.

It’s very simple. Craig Berube was also an assistant coach for a very long time with this team. Laviolette got fired, Berube saw his first heading coaching job. Regardless of the level, whether it be NHL or AHL, Lappy and Chief saw a head coaching job the same way.

So funny peeps think Nate will come out of the lineup.
- hello it's me 2050

You think Nate Thompson is an every night main stay??? He hasn’t been an every night main stay since 2015.

Where did I say he had no coaching experience? Please show me that.

Berube was also a top assistant, not low level. Go flyers. Lappy rules.

I have absolute zero doubt he will be in that lineup the very high majority of the time. No reason at all to believe he wont be based on how AV has used him.

Right now, no, but is that the system or the player's execution of the system so far?

Lappy was basically demoted and pushed down the rungs while an assistant. Then suddenly given a head coach job entrusted in developing the flyers young talent

So you are saying NHL level assistant coaches are not qualified to be head coaches at lower levels?
- MBFlyerfan

NHL level assistant coach just like how VDV was an NHL level lock for the Flyers lineup.

The pandering to current Flyers authority is an intriguing stance.

Injured, upper body day to day.

Unfortunate for the kid but he’s got bust written all over him. I don’t blame Hextall for picking him up, but really was an unfortunate turn of events.

Playing a trap which is a neutral zone system versus an overload in the offensive or defensive zone is not something that can be easily confused with one another.

Or a new head coach wanted to bring in his own bench coaches and kept Lappariere on as an assistant. Same with the new GM who promoted him to be the AHL head coach. Why?

Well, the Flyers are doing something right in the neutral zone this season, compared to last season, because clearly based on just watching the games the Flyers are generating more turnovers and scoring off the rush a lot more. Whether that's a trap or overloading (which you can do in the neutral zone BTW) its just semantics.

An interesting situation that may come up this season is where the team will put priority on in terms of acquiring improvements via trade if possible.

On one hand there is a definite hole in the middle of the ice with Frost stagnating and Hayes needing surgery again. Brassard has been a good pickup, and his play admirable.

On the other, a second pair of Ristolainen and Sanheim seems to be a definite weak spot with both players having some valid questions to their game.

Clearly one wouldn’t rush to a panic trade, but I am wondering what sort of move we might see from Fletcher assuming they are in a playoff hunt. He is not likely to stand pat this season.

Take a breath, simply a little jab back.

Let’s not pretend that the comment was about him being an assistant NHL coach, and not about a veiled defense of the team. Questioning their development strategy, is more than valid.

Can throw the punch, but not receive?

that is your take. Not mine.

Lappy was director of player development for a year. Then moved, wonder why. Has bounced around with several diff assistant roles. Why? Was he ever promoted?
