thanks for this video, I mentioned this very play in my post, I think Risto was gassed and was caught puck watching instead of tying up Marchant stick. I too expect and hope he plays better as he gets more comfortable, because if not it was a bad move by Fletcher. One thing a GM should every do is fall in love with any one player. Right now I am not worried, I think he will be fine on the second pair I think Sanheim has to play much better also.

He wasn't gassed, he missed the coverage. If that was an isolated incident it wouldn't be a big deal. Every defenseman gets beaten on occasion. He may not be fully in game shape or not physically 100% so we have to give him time. His lack of hockey sense and ability to read and anticipate plays really concerns me. He doesn't move his feet and really the only time he is aggressive is when going for a big hit. Which multiple times already this season in two games, he has taken himself out of the play to make hits. Quality defenseman anticipate the play and go to where the puck is going. Not to where it's been. He is behind the play. Still keeping an open mind and giving him time but not liking what I see so far. I also agree that the pairing as a whole including Sanheim needs to be better.

Half-way thru the Phantoms game. WBS 1 Phantoms 0.

Ersson and Sandstrom looking good so far into this young season.

Offensive they still are empty.

The smaller ice rink allows you to hear everything. Forgot how much I miss the smaller arenas.

Its a great room. Ive seen a few concerts there as well. Very intimate but still has a big room feel.

The last guy wasted a # 2 pick on Patrick …drafted O’Brien, Rubstov an a struggling Morgan Frost….but ya let’s fire a GM for trading to upgrade the teams biggest need. I think he should have been fired if he wasn’t proactive in the off season….there was absolutely “ZERO’ reason to bring back the same team that sucked last year…that to me would have gotten him fired for dereliction of duty.

Relax guys, it was their first regulation loss of the season, after just their 4th game, to one of the chalk teams this year.
I’m sure Tampa, Col, NYI, Tor, aren’t in full panic mold. They can’t fix everything at once, give it 20-25 games to see where we are. All teams have worts, can’t have Hall of Famers at all 20 positions.

Phantoms lose again 2-1 in OT. Still don’t have a 5 on 5 goal yet this season. Willman tied the game with 40 seconds left, 6 on 5, when the Phantoms net was empty.

Fletcher had a clear case of tunnel vision when it came to Risto.
- hello it's me 2050

On the plus side he will be cheap to re-sign. Let's face it, if he plays like he is worth what we gave up, the Flyers will never be able to fit him the salary cap. For this reason, it is a trade that should have never been made....if he plays to his M-O he is not worth what they gave up. If he plays above it they can't afford him. Flyers management has no foresight; it is all shoot from the hip

You could pony up the $20 and subscribe to the site to avoid ads. Bill provides a lot of good content. I think he’s worth $20 a year.

I don't think he'll be cheap to re-sign no matter what. It's one thing to trade for a top player who needs to be re-signed. It's another to trade and give up what they gave up for a player who has questions mark about him. On top of also not being cost controlled. Let's face it, we hear that other teams were interested in him. Yet the Flyers got him. That means that they offered the best deal for him. This is speculation but other teams may have been interested but not at that price.

They'd probably find another Mike Mamula to draft

Assuming worst case scenario where Ristolainen straight up bombs. It's a bit presumptuous to say they'll resign him.

I can see this. They said they were talking about it for years. His offseason list was prob very short. But do wonder who was on it.

Yes we offered the best price. Chuck said other teams were also offering a first outs was the highest in the first round.

Correct. which makes the trade even worse and more short sighted

Agreed. But I don't think you resign a guy just because you gave up more than you should have. That just further compounds the problem. Only do so if you see him as an integral part of the team moving forward.

While we continue to discuss how amazing Atkinson is. Voracek has the same amount of points.

By making the trade aren't you already stating that you see him as an integral part of the team moving forward?

Atkinson contributes more at both ends of the rink and the Flyers needed someone to put the puck in the net. Atkinson made two plays on the PK last night that stopped possible 10 bell chances for the Cats and he had a SHG! Voracek will always get his points, but Atkinson contributes more of what the Flyers need and his price tag is 2 million less. Not sure why I have to keep beating this dead horse? On another note, I was just watching the Isles/Vegas game and Nolan Patrick isn't playing. Ruh roh!!

I'm sure that was the thought behind it. Sometimes things don't always go accordingly.
