I think the acquisition of Jones, MAF, McCabe, Johnson etc. and the return of Toews and a healthy Dach set the fan’s expectations high. But Toews, MAF and Jones are struggling, even with the points Kane isn’t playing his best and the team just looks out of sorts. Add in some terrible decision making and some bad luck and we see the results. I really don’t think the coaches have much to do with this although they're the easiest and most convenient to blame and they don’t seem to hold anyone accountable. To me this is on the players who are void of any passion, are making too making mental errors and just aren’t playing well. All that said it’s easier fire a coach than 15 players. - paulr
All I know is that Stan lost yet another trade giving Vegas Mikael Hakkarainen for MAF. |

Detroit was the clearly superior team in that period, think about that for a moment. |

I know you can't tell anything from preseason, but did they really seem this bad? Or is it just since Gus started playing? |

Is this a character thing? Or, a skills thing? Or, a teamwork thing?
I'm at a loss as to why they are seemingly worse than last year. It's disheartening. - pdx2ord

Oh no not Stan, he's beyond reproach, 100% responsible for 3 Cups, no culpability for current team. |

Sure, it’s ultimately on the players, but it’s much more complicated than that. Coaches need to be able to not just prepare players mentally and with game strategy, but also have to be able to push the right buttons when things are not going right. What’s needed and how it’s handled is different for every player, every situation and for the team as a whole. MAF, McCane, DeHaan, Toews, Johnson, Kane, Jones, etc. Sure, that all just happen to be playing like poop, what’s the common denominator…..the coaching staff. |

So who on the team comes from a winning culture (or at least recently enough they might remember what one felt like)?
Johnson, Kane, Toews, Fleury, who else? From the coaches, Brookbank?
We have a team full of newbies and guys who have never even been to the playoffs. Some, like McCabe, have come from teams perennially in the bottom of the league during their tenure.
I fear Toews and Kane are too inwardly focused on their health this year to do a lot of culture building, Johnson is just a little pitbull, but was he a leader? Fleury is in adjustment mode.
Just spitballing on what one of the major issues might be. |

Try back reading a bit. Might help your demeanor though that's about as much wishful thinking as the Hawks grabbing a lead this season. |

Really? SO what is Detroit's reason for beating the poop out of us tonight? Did you just watch whatever that was in the 2nd period? This team is a (frank)ing joke. PERIOD.

Actually I don't. I don't think this team is THAT talented or well coached, or well developed. This is a pure bottom feeder team. The various components that combine to be the reason (incompetent GM, incompetent coach. etc.) are not material. |
